Being told at the interview someone else was already hired...

Have you ever went on a job interview, where the first thing you were told when you came in was that they already found their perfect candidate and it's not you? This actually happened to me some years ago...
I was very upset about that. Not just about the fact that I wouldn't get the job but because they had me come in when clearly there was no need for me to do so. All the stress and worry and the long commute was for nothing...
I don't understand why they had me come in for an interview if they had already found the person they were going to hire and had already hired for that matter. That was not very professional on their part. They could have just told me the news over the phone or over email so I wouldn't have to waste my time or stress and worry for nothing.
And I don't understand why they proceeded to interview me when they already had their person. Perhaps they wanted to be polite. Either way, I am not a fan of the way things turned out.
There I was, thinking I had a real shot at finally landing a job I'd enjoy, when that wasn't going to be the case from the very beginning...

This has never happened to me, and it would seem highly irregular and weird if someone would still conduct an interview after having already filled the position. The ONLY thing I can think of is that maybe they were continuing to interview to have other considerations if the candidate they chose didn't work out.

I don’t know what was going on but I was not a fan of what happened, especially since I hate interviews. I’m always nervous and maybe even uncomfortable.

@lovebuglena I am usually confident at interviews. But I rarely badly needed the money and was always choosy about what I'd take. I sometimes made it a point to let the interviewer know they were being interviewed as well.

That was really very bad. They should've informed you in advance about this. They just wasted your time. This is such an unprofessional behavior of them.
