There's something about livin in suburbia ...... aside from the lack of privacy
...... that makes me ALMOST ~~~yeah, almost, I ain't crazy~~~ wish I lived in one.
See that photo up there? A friend of mine's dad figured out a way to grow all that in the area tween the sidewalk and the side of his house, isn't it nice?
So she brags about her dad's talent, he's a master gardener, and yeah I do wish I could grow plants like that too but do I really want those high water bills? Nah. Did this happen because he put in seeds and just let em sprout? Nah.
He redid the whole area and spent bookoo bucks on gardening supplies. Sure, it's impressive and honestly if I had the money he spent I'd build a catrium. Ok, I still want to build one but I'll be using really cheap stuff unlike this man who spent all that money on really good gardening soil, mulch, automatic watering system and etc.
BUTT, all things said and done I am so impressed with what this 84 yr old man has done ~~~~~~~~ don't worry, he has help so he doesn't overdo it at his age.
Now my friend complained that some of the potted plants her dad put out front was stolen ..... I told her to get a dog but she claims she's allergic, heck, all she needed is a poodle or schnauzer, small one, and they'd have the best protection plus alarm.

It doesn't cost that much to have a garden. I don't grow flowers, but veggies it is well worth it

It takes a lot of water, which is expensive here, to grow most vegetables and flowers then to make matters worse the soil here can be anything from pure sand to clumping clay both need organic augmentation which is rather sparse in this desert. Mulch is only free once Christmas is over and my biggest problem is that I don't have a pickup truck to haul it with. I think if I were younger I'd have more energy to come up with ideas but I've noticed as I get older that I no longer care.
I do wonder why I didn't move from here 20 years ago but of course hindsight does no good.

@rebelann You are better off to forget gardening and so am I. I loved it in times past but it's out of the question living in an apartment. When I gardened we kept a compost pile and added table scraps, leaves, grass clippings and so on. We dug that into the garden, and usually we had enough rain. What I hated was digging out weeds during the hot summer days.

Yesterday, my son in law made me smell his compost. He had done it in less tha na year. I wanted to know how he had done it as it is always a difficult task for me. He said the left a space one feet by 3 at the garden (nothing) and added first asome old lettuce leaves and other old veggies from the kitchen. Then he added soil. After that, he place a bit of leaves and more soil. And then it was lrttuce and so on agsin. He did mot move it and onc
ly once in a while he poured a bit of water there, not too much. The composts was easy, cheap and smelled like heaven.

'tis lovely :) one can put'n a native plant garden that'd look jest 's purty, e'en more so 'n with less water though. not all desert plants 'r cacti, lol. i'm glad though that he t'was able to put that'n, no doubt such brings him great joy.
what a shame that folks take what aint theirs, particularly from the elderly. wonder what'd happen if'n they hooked 'p a hot wire 'round 'em??
yer friend might be allergic, then 'gain may not wish the responsibility 'f ownin'/carin' fer a pet. both breeds ya mention can rack 'p lots 'f funds from goin' to the beauty parlor - a requirement to keep 'em lookin' their best.

I think she just doesn't like kritters, she's got a real problem with hair. Good thing she doesn't depend on me fer rides
I really don't mind if someone doesn't care much for kritters as long as they don't spect to come to my house n visit thinkin I'll clear the hair just so's they can feel comfy, that sure ain't gonna happen.
