Deodorants Cause Breast Cancer! Really?

My wife told me a while ago that deodorants cause breast cancer according to her fellow health workers. I asked her what is in antiperspirants/deodorants that causes cancer. She got no idea; so I decided to find out in the internet. Aluminum! Almost all deodorants/antiperspirants contain aluminum. However, according to medical experts it is not scientifically and medically proven that it causes breast cancer. So, don't stop using your favorite antiperspirant-deodorant brand yet. If you cease using it, especially if you live in the tropics, you better find an organic deodorant. Is there an organic antiperspirant-deodorant?!

Yes, there is - tawas or maybe lemon . But anyway , a lot of products s are said to be cancer causing . If that is the case , then , we should have so much patience in doing things that can make us feel , look and smell good naturally or manually . .

Yes, in fact I've been using one for about three years now. I've been aware of that fact three years ago and I started my search for organic or natural deodorants that has no alum. However, some people stick to lemon as their deo and it's effective. The downside with the lemon is when you have sensitive skin. Lemon is acidic and can cause burning of the skin which happened to me when I tried it.

@antonbunot I've never heard of avocado as a deo. It's rich in vitamin E that could make our skin glow but deodorant? I won't try it at all, i'll just eat it.

@toniganzon . . . How about sampaguita flowers' juice . . . O, that would be the best deodorant. You know, I am not kidding, I don't perspire here in Canada. Just a bit when I play tennis during summer.

The aluminum is absorbed through the skin's pores and travels to the mammary gland causing the cancers @antonbunot . Organic? Yes.

@antonbunot I don't think any amount of aluminum in the body system would be good.

I think it is the anti perspirant that causes cancer and not the deodorant. It is yet to be proven though.

It's the alum in the deodorants. Check the labels of the commercial deodorants that you're using.

@toniganzon Yeah?! I guess I should stop using antiperspirants . . anyway, it is cold here in Canada and I don't perspire at all. Seriously, I also shave my armpit hairs. I feel good with hairless armpits.

One day is one product, the day after is another. I have stopped listening to rumors, I try to use products with no chemicals, but I will not give up my deodorant.

@LadyLuck . . . I seldom use antiperspirants/deodorants during winter . . . I asked my wife one time if I smelled offensive . . she said no . . . I think it is because we don't perspire or sweat during winter except in the gym.

aluminum? only thing i can think of is the container, but most of them are tin or sheet metal. is it the spray on kind? or roll on kind? which kind is the supposed cancer giver?

@antonbunot - maybe its not the deodorant, maybe its the body wash, or soap, or the water. or maybe its just genetics.too many variables.

Yes i read this too...i also saw ways to DIY the deo....but the ingredients are not so readily available in the market here. Also @Yadah04 is right. The problem is with the antiperspirants because they STOP one from sweating. The body naturally NEEDS to sweat...deodorants do not stop sweat..they only target the odor.

@ms1864 So the ingredient for antiperspirant is the one that contains aluminum?! My wife said the aluminum is absorbed by our body thru the skin pores.

Yes. as far as i have read. Your wife is right..that is how it is absorbed...but no reason to worry. There are plenty safe options out in the market. This link might help.
The issue of aluminum chlorides in deodorants has been discussed among manufacturers, scientists and consumers for a couple of years, now. There are different

Being an Amway member even I am being told that deodorants has the ability to cause cancer. To prove this, they give a simple experiment, ie, take a think colorful plastic cover, and spray the deo over it, after a few seconds(when it dries) rub it with your finger. The plastic covers layers are torn kind of. It shows that the color of the plastic had been faded. Hence it could even affect our body adversely.

@antonbunot I don't know whether it's due to the aluminum content or not actually.

there is! a deoderant that is not antipersperant . it seems the idea is if something keeps you from sweating underarms is what causes the cancer. what is needed is go back to the old way and just keep clean and put good smells on.

Aluminium was the 'bad guy' many years ago and everyone was told to stop using aluminium pots and pans. But later it seems they changed their minds.

I use native lemon (kalamansi). No joke. I stopped using commercial deodorants because it darkened my underarm and got more "anghit" if I don't bath early morning. Yuck . I didn't like "tawas" too and now am glad knowing I am safe from cancer.
