Scary Snake Scare and Poor Mr Toad Meets a Sorry End

I was just mowing the lawn. The neighbours are always telling me it is a mistake to do so in bare feet. They are worried about deer dropping, but I have never seen a deer in my garden.
I use a hand lawn mower and it works well till you hit a branch or stone so I have to stop quite often.
I turned the mower over and screamed. There was what I thought was a snake hanging from the blades. I thought it was a branch at first, so I went to pull it out. YEUCH it was a
all slimy. I screamed and ran indoors.
Yes, I did put boots on. Then I got a stick. I was pretty sure the thing was dead. I had to get it out of the lawnmower blades.
Outside, feeling very brave I turned the lawn mower over again.
That is when I realised I had mown over a toad.
Now I feel bad, but judging by the cat's reaction I wonder if it had not met a sorry end already.
I'm paranoid about frogs and toads. I have this phobia. This is not my best gardening day. A snake would have been fine when I think about it as we don't get poisonous ones here in the UK. At least, we do have Adders and they are very shy and usually found down by the river.
But YEUCH, YEUCH, YEUCH even if I do feel very sorry for poor Mr Toad.

My goodness, any time you run over a critter or creature with the mower it is not going to end well for them! That must have been some mess to clean out of the blades!

I'm glad it wasn't a snake, even if they aren't poisonous. I'm sure I would have had the same reaction.
