For 35 years I have been getting up early every morning to make my hubby his lunch for work - spoiled man indeed. He works very far from a canteen therefore takes his own packed lunch to work without FAIL!
Thus the title of Sandwich Baroness !
Recently at the Bowling club it was said that I make the best egg mayonnaise and other sandwiches but I must say that my ideas are starting to fizzle out!
To my famous Egg mayonnaise I add a little Kuhne Medium Hot German mustard and a teaspoon of condensed milk and some chopped spring onions.
They are the rave.
Another treat is the combination of powdered "Biltong" which is dried cured S A Meat and Kuhne Barrel Gherkins (also German) - they are crisp with a nice salty taste.
The men's favourite are - Grated Mature Cheddar Cheese with finely chopped Red onion. This is also one of my hubby's favourite. You must remember that in SA we put margarine or butter on all our bread as well.
The nicest sandwich to me is lettuce and cucumber with a dash of black pepper - simple and refreshing.
Fillings . . . . do you have any idea's of what one can put between two slices of bread?
My photo is of the Adderley Street corner Coffee Show in Cape Town - a great morning stop in and awakening to the day.

I'm a fan of a good old tuna (mixed with mayonnaise, diced red onion, & a wee bit of pickle relish) especially on a nice hard roll. Tomatoes & lettuce optional

Why just bread? I love to put thinly sliced turkey, Alfalfa sprouts, swiss cheese and tomato in a pita pocket. To take it with me, I bring the tomato in a separate bag and put it on fresh, but a man won't do that, so put you tomato slice inbetween the sprouts. You can spread the inside of the pita with mayo or butter. Avocado is also very good instead of turkey.

@Inlemay I would definitely go with the cucumber and lettuce salad. That shop looks like a coffee House that we have near our place.

My hubby favorite is ham, mayo and lettuce, or roast beef, hot mustard and sliced tomatoes. The bread I use is either an Italian ciabatta or a French baguette. At home, he also love brie cheese inside a baguette that is then places in the toaster to melt the cheese inside.

Wow you are dedicated, making your husband's sandwiches every day! My Mum used to make sandwiches for my Dad too. My partner makes his own lunch - he can make what he likes and he's quicker at throwing something together anyway!
As for fillings, I like hummus and cucumber, cheddar cheese with honey and mustard, coronation chicken, bacon with hoi sin sauce, smoked salmon and horseradish, and cheese with carrot and apple raita among others!
