First Fire

My weekend outside for the craft show started with rain but my kids checked their i Phones and it was going to be done in a half hour so we waited and it was gone...
The weekend was crazy busy, the weather was cool and at times cold. We had lot of layers to put on and take off as needed.
Another year and another successful Thanksgiving Art and Craft Weekend.
Now I can breathe, the stores are slowing down because Tourist time is over. I have three special orders to do and when that is done I will continue to paint but not like a crazy woman. I will have time to spend time here on myLot and I'm looking forward to that.
I caught up on all the old comments I hadn't gotten too. And that makes me feel good. If I missed anyone it was an accident...sorry...
The photo above was a delightful thing to see in my home when we came home from standing in the cold for the days... There is nothing better than the smell of a wood fire and the heat it gives to us.
It looks like fall is bursting outside and its getting colder...sadly soon there will be snow and I can't ski on it anymore. My surgeon took my skis away from me 6 years ago. I am hoping to have the second new knee this January. If that happens I will miss going south this winter but the knee is more important than a winter snow bird event.
How is your fall this year or what ever season you are experiencing now. Hope its a happy one. I know I am going to enjoy the color of the leaves soon.

Thanks, I look forward to being pain free again. We are experiencing an Indian Summer, warm temps day and night and beautiful colors.

@PainsOnSlate Just returned from a walk around our lane with my husband to look at the foliage. It is a lovely fall day here, too. We haven't had a frost, yet, down here.

I don't have a fireplace in my house (I live in Florida, after all!), but the kids and I did build a bonfire out in the backyard last week after Hurricane Matthew went through. The counterclockwise motion of the hurricane funneled down some cold air from the north, and we had our first cool spell of the season. Nothing too cold, but still gave us an excuse to build a fire and sit around and roast marshmallows!

@PainsOnSlate When you come to Florida, you're in the Ocala area, right? Or do I totally have it wrong? lol

@moffittjc Yes Ocala - we always stop to visit for a few days. I met with Belle there last winter. If i get there this winter we want to meet you and any others in the area too....

I usually spend a couple of months in Florida but I hope to have surgery (new knee) in January. Might have to visit in December...I watched with horror as the storm hit the US and the Islands. It actually hit Canada the other day... It didn't do much here and I hope you and your family were OK too.

@PainsOnSlate We don't need heat inside our homes, what we need rather are air-conditioning units or electric fans. But we do use gas or charcoal grills during picnics.

I can imagine in your part of the world you probably don't need the heat. Do you have fires outside to toast marshmallows with your children or to cook a picnic style meal or BBQ?

Such a cozy photo, I love a real fire. The gas and electric ones can't compare. I was in an elderly lady's house one day, she was housebound and the first thing she asked me to do was to light her fire. She said it was a living thing and it certainly took the edge off her loneliness.

@PainsOnSlate The only problem I have with the fire is that if I turn on the extractor fan above the cooker in the kitchen then the smoke comes down the chimney in the living room... I've no idea why....

It is comforting, not only because of the heat. It makes one happy, I know what she was talking about.

@41CombedaleRoad That's very strange except if your cooker fan has very very heavy pull...

Our heat has been on a few times. But it appears we are in a Indian Summer, bright colors on the trees but warm weather. I hope it lasts...

We can't believe how fast fall is here and the cold weather with it. Like most, we hoped for one of wonderful falls that has tons of sunshine and warmth.

@PainsOnSlate anytime in the cool weather I smell somebody burning wood, I love the smell. We live near a BBQ place that smokes their meat, it smells sooo good to drive by there too

yes that would have been a nice warm welcome glowing in the fireplace.... glad you had a good event and can relax a bit... nice to see you back on here... in this part of spain it is hard to tell it's autumn as we do not have the same change of seasons really .... still warm and dry...

I like warm and dry. In my old age I am thinking I would like to change climates but then i remember all my children are here where winter is miserably cold so I tend to leave for a couple of months but stay for the rest.

I wish I had a fireplace but it just wouldn't be practical here .... maybe I can figure out out ot build an outdoor fireplace, then I can burn some of my documents.

We always had an outdoor fire pit once we moved to the country as a kid in New York. We used it for fun and to burn the trash. Today burning trash is not allowed (pollution) and if farmers need to burn off fields they need to let the Fire departments know so they don't think something is on fire accidentally. Many of my neighbors here in Ontario have a fire pit for family and friends to gather around. We don't...

Really not cold enough to be fall yet. It will be close to 80 today. I hate the leaves turning, but we have a lot of pines so they stay green which helps my mental state.

I have never wanted to move to the south and still don't only because my children are here in Canada. I like being close to them and we usually take off for the south for a month or so in the winter. Summer is my favorite but Fall makes me happy too.
