A little while ago I read a post about fears in the night, it set me thinking as I had been discussing much the same thing with some friends this week.
They all said the same thing, in the middle of the night they awoke and worried about things. I remembered a description of this – it was called The Witching Hour. It was originally 3-4 a.m. which was calculated as the time of the night when there were no Catholic services or prayers being made – the safety net was not there and the witches were active.
In modern days we reckon on it being at 2 a.m. but I’ve no idea why. There is something known as The Devil’s Hour and that is placed at 3.0 or 3.15 a.m.
I personally think there is no such thing as a witching hour although I have experienced waking up at night and not sleeping again very easily because disturbing thoughts were running through my head but I usually find good reasons for that linked with the day that has just passed.
Unfortunately I cannot trace that particular post now, which is a pity because I would like to give the writer credit for it.

Very interesting. I've never heard it called the Witching Hour but its a perfect name. I tend to sleep soundly until 4AM and then I need to visit the "loo" and have a DEVIL of a time getting back to sleep. If there is anything going on in my life, that is the time when I worry or fret about it.

Maybe you mean the time during Halloween or All Hallow's Eve. This is when the veil between the paranormal side and the normal side is thinner.

I wake up in the middle of the night because I'm worried about something,or as you said related to the day that has just passed.
