i live in a tourist trap in the us..the one famous for mansions and "the cowsills"..and that's about it..(neverminding they almost tore down the mansions til they found out they could make money showing them..but i digress..)
we full time residents used to look forward to the winter season..when tourist fled our cold and finally went home.we'd have the town back,no drunken jerks peeing on and clogging the streets..
-enter the city council, who in their infinite wisdom, have tried to make a winter tourism season 'cause appearently, they haven't leeched enough money yet.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
we want our town! go leaf upstate! new york is prettier, really!
by the bye..my income is not dependent on local anything.
there's the bridge,so long and thanks for eating all the fish.

@scarlet_woman I have known many of my fellow British to appear appalled at such pronunciations, yet they often pronounce foreign place names badly.
Maybe this was the reason that you ejected us in the 18th century.

I don't know how anyone can stand living in a tourist trap. I realize there will be many really good people that'll come by but along with them will come the thieves and all other manner of derelict plus all the paparazzi that just have to come take a gander just in case they can create a sensational story.
My condolences but please don't send them my way

Oh good grief, that sounds like what college kids do @scarlet_woman they're so afraid of growing up that they do really really stupid things.
You'd think they'd learn from the mistakes of former college kids considering the price some of them paid for their stupidity.

Hubby enjoyed reading your post over my shoulder. He lived in your stomping grounds off and on from seventeen years on up. His mom's family was from the area. I think we came once and played tourist but did not see all the mansions. It does get a bit thick there.

I sell my art in a tourist trap and love the money. I wouldn't want to live there. There are events in the winter but very few, summer is a hot mess, I can never find a parking site close enough to the store and end up making two or three trips because my art is heavy... Unless I go early and sit in my car with a cup of coffee in front of the store and wait for them to open...When I have the time that is what I do...

they have "events" every now and then you can sell stuff at..but there's usually some kind of entrance fee..that kind of infuriates me,because without artists, they'd have no event..
