I Am So Relieved

This afternoon Josh came upstairs and asked to talk to me. He said he wanted to discuss getting his Xbox back. We discussed the incident that was, afterall, all about his Xbox. The incident that caused me to be injured. He expressed sincere regret. He talked about school and how he is doing. I told him I was really proud of him for going five weeks with no problems in the morning, here at home or at school. He has been getting up when prompted, getting ready for school and making it out to the bus in time. Neither his mom or I have had to repremand him on any issues. I had been totally freaked out after the incident. I didn't know how to handle it. I had kept his Xbox hidden and I hadn't even spoken to Josh that much, usually only when spoken to. I had been hurt and angry about what happened and didn't want to say anything I would be sorry for. I didn't know how to handle it so I let it go until I felt better. Then I got involved with the home nursing thing, trying to find transportation to medical appointments, etc. So, today he made the gesture and we started over from the beginning before anything happened. So much time has gone by I think we can put whatever was before to rest and go forward now. I am relieved and so happy to set forth with a new beginning. He knows the rules, regrets what happened, has been doing real well so I hope that continues.

Sounds like a big improvement that he didn't have any fuss when speaking to you today, and he's doing good with everything (getting ready for school, waking up, having no problems in school) - that is a great start. Did he get his Xbox back or will he soon? Does he play any violent games. Do you think the games were the problem?

He got it back. He doesn't play violent games. Mostly one called Mind Craft. No, the games weren't the problem. It is his ODD.

@celticeagle I see, just curious if it could trigger him because I know some kids get addicted to their games and what not. Very nice to hear he got his Xbox back.

for him, I am assuming 5 weeks is a huge deal, and the fact that he approached this, not as a gimme this back, but as a discussion about doing so is impressive

See? The boy can be so mature at time. It really makes the bad times, when he is being a twirp, more emotional and hard to handle. Causing me a lot of stress. I just know that he could be so much better in a given situation. His ODD is still looming there.

@Jessicalynnt ....True. He is doing well most of the time now with just the occasional acting out.

@celticeagle yeah, the up and down is frustrating, but better that the up is there rather than not there at all

I hope so. He does surprise me at times with his logic and realistic look at things. Not immature at all. THen other times he is a little jerk. Like two different personalities completely.

What the hell is he thinking? All because of that darn XBOX! People had greater problems and he caused you injury because of a console game ? Well, there's always room for improvement that doesn't involve you getting Injured

He spends a lot of time on it. Loves the games. I won't get injured again or he will pay the penalty.

Maybe it sunk into his brain what he did and how you could have been even more hurt. I am glad to read this encouraging account. May there be better days for the both of you.

He wanted his Xbox back. But he did come to me too. I think it was good to have waited.
