The Price You Pay to Have 3 Weekends in a Row Off!

Our employer has ruled that every employee will have to work one weekend a month, unless they choose to work a different schedule, such as every other weekend.
Having to work weekends has been a thorn in my side for the past 6 years. I really missed out on a lot having to work every other weekend. With this new rule, everyone has to work one weekend a month. This will make it fair for all of us.
The one downside was having to give up my Fridays off. At first it was rough because I was working 9 hour workdays for 4 out of the five days. What makes it brutal is the fact that when the full-time employees work their weekend, there isn't a day off for 12 days. That is rough.
Needless to say, I am exhausted by the end of that 12 day stretch. I find myself falling asleep when I get home and put my feet up. I have forewarned my husband that I may not feel like cooking after a long day.
Hoping that I can make this work until I can retire.

The scheduler and management have been discussing the issue. The only people that get time off are the per diem workers. Full-time suffers because we work Monday thru Friday. They are discussing the possibility of giving us the Monday off after the weekend we work. Haven't heard anything more on the subject.

@NJChicaa I feel badly for my clients that look forward to seeing me. I was moving a bit slower, but got the work done. Even so, I was exhausted.

@DianneN I am considering part-time work in couple of years. My fear is if I keep traveling the road I am on my body will suffer. I am not jumping into it right away. May be forced to do it if I get injured again.

@ElusiveButterfly Remember - one day at a time. I did that.

12 days in a row with no days off in between is a brutal work schedule. Here in Manila, you can't work for more than five days in a row. Working for six days straight is stretching it.

Thankfully we get paid for overtime work. But, money isn't everything.

@ElusiveButterfly true.
With a schedule like yours, you'll tire and burn out easily.

@allen0187 it is getting close to that. I often worry about burnout. Try to pace myself and take deep breaths.

When I worked for the telephone company back in the 80's we had a revolving days off type schedule. We'd have two days off each week culminating in a four day weekend. Then it would start all over. Sure made it nice. We'd get the four day about every six weeks or so.

@ElusiveButterfly ......It sure was. Then you knew what days you had off and when you would have a four day to look forward to.

That is a strict demanding schedule. I worked 12 days on with 2 days off when I was first out of college and working 2 jobs. I just turned down an offer to work full time a couple of days ago at work. At this stage of my life, I need to keep myself happy so 3 full shifts per week and 2 short ones does me just fine. And then when the time comes I will go down to all short shifts.
I hope that you can keep up.

I am hoping to work part-time once my vehicle is paid off. The vehicle will be paid off in two years.
