Back pains = no fun!

I have occasional back pains that come and go. I have been to the doctors multiple times and the urgent care in the past and they can't do anything about it. They just tell me to resort to pain medication, which I won't take. I have to try to do some yoga or go swimming to relieve my back pains the natural way. It feels like pinching of the nerves.
Not fun at all! I did get x-rays too and the report said my back is slightly not straight but nothing severe.
When you're in pain - do you go the natural method or settle with medication?

I try to go without any medicines for anything - only with serious headaches I might take something. I have tried acupuncture for leg injuries in skating and that helped. I have tried some acupressure and reflexology (stuff I find online) and that sometimes relieves certain pains. My sister in law has ongoing lower back issues - and yoga seems to help her.

I am scared to do acupuncture or a chiropractor! My parents tried them out and it didn't work for them. I do try to go without medication. Right now - I feel better doing stretches. :) I do, do stretches on a regular basis but I guess it can be the way I laid or just randomly.

@infatuatedbby Maybe I have a high tolerance for pain
. But seriously, they are very small needles and it's not like they poke you deeply or anything. You just sit there with the needles for whatever time they prescribe - in the meantime you are supposed to relax - I've even fallen asleep!!

Sometimes I have this problem. I will do some stretches and I really think this is health. I heard that the best way is to have a swimming. Swimming is good for it. Since I don't often swim, so doing the stretches will be easy and practical.

@infatuatedbby You don't have to swim in the water. But the water will relax all of your body and perhaps this is why it is good for your back pain.

Yes - the doctors recommend swimming. I don't often go to the pool since it's not convenient and you can't really swim in the beach (I am not that great of a swimmer) but I will do more stretches.
I got my back injury last year after going on the roller coaster multiple times back to back.

@youless Ah makes sense. It is getting cold now to go to the beach though but maybe on a sunny day.

I recently got a new mattress at my boyfriends' and my house mattress at my parents' house is relatively new. It is because last year, I went on the rollercoaster and got injured from going multiple of times. My body was not used to be thrown all over (from the ride)
I had pain immediately the next day and seek medical assistance. Now I get ongoing main but it comes/goes.
Yesterday was major - today I am doing better. I hope to heal by tomorrow.

Thank you I will look for back strengthening exercises! Last year, I went on the rollercoaster back to back multiple of times since there was no lines - my body was just not used to be thrown all over, then the next day I was in major pain. Since then I get occasional back pains where it feels like my nerve is pinching and I cannot move or itch out of bed literally.
It is day 3 now and I am feeling better.

Since your spine is slightly out of whack @infatuatedbby , yoga and stretching can help 'realign' the spine. Or seeing a chiropractor. My spine on the other hand; has fractured discs, collapsed discs and there is no fluid cushions between the discs. This is in not only the cervical, but also the thorasic and lumbar regions. I went from being 5'11" to 5'8". Major surgery is my only option; which I refuse sooooo, when I am in pain (which is constant), I take only a baby aspirin (when the pain is above a 10) and use Icy Hot Patches.

@nanette64 I am not a fan of roller coasters - but I went ahead at a team building event from my previous job. There were no lines and we went a few times.
I am sorry to hear that. Are you okay now?

I will do more stretches and try yoga now - thank you.
I got back pains after going on roller coasters last year back to back. The next day, I felt like I injured my back from being flipped in all sorts of positions from the ride that I was not used to. Now my back occasionally will get pains.
I am sorry to hear about your spine. Did something happen and that's how you got fractures/collapse discs?
Surgery is really scary especially for our backs/spinal.

@infatuatedbby People don't realize that roller coasters are similar to having a car accident and suffering whiplash. My husband was a physical abuser. I've had my head shoved through walls, my back slammed into door jams, thrown from a car at 35mph, thrown down stairs, etc.

Our vet's wife taught me a trick that works like a charm. Lie on the floor on your back with knees bent, and tush almost against a sofa. Slowly stretch your arms to the side and over your head to lie on the floor. Do several times. It feels so good, too.

I am like you also, I try not to use medication unless it is the last resort, same as when I am sick too.

@infatuatedbby Heat really does seem to help me a lot. I use it when I'm sitting (watching television or reading) or when I'm in bed laying down. I think it just relaxes all the muscles.

It isn't severe or anything according to them. It's just pain I will have to ride out! But it lasts 3-4 days and I will be good for a few months.

I have ton's of back and many other chronic pain, I have Fibromyalgia and Arthritis. I do not like pain killers, just something you can get addicted to or pass away like my husband did from Sepsis, GI Bleeding and Liver Cancer. I use natural methods such as herbs, essential oils, eating right and exercise.

I use menthol based topical lineaments to get rid of the pain. Do not try it though if your skin is sensitive against camphor.

I have this as well. Also, doesn't help that I stand on my feet at work. I tend to take it easy, have a hot bathe, and swing does help.

I don't know, the back pain I had actually caused by the uric acid. But also probably sitting here more than two hours, causing back pain. I agree with you however, that it's no fun. It makes me feel like an old man.

I never heard of uric acid.
It makes me feel old when I tell people I have back pain. I injured my back from riding the roller coaster back to back multiple times last year.

For something like this I would grin and bear it.
I say that because when I was a teenager I fractured 2 vertebrae in my back, and after you've had a broken back, you experience back pain occasionally forever, but nothing in comparison to the pain when it first happened or during that first 6 or 8 weeks following it.
Remaining more active by swimming is a good idea, have you tried a heating pad on it when it is really bad?

Yes, I could never imagine fracturing pain would feel like as this is a baby injury only. It lasts a few days and comes/goes.
