Yeah, sometimes the color of the soup can be deceptive, I don't use a blender but I do like to make soup with all kinds of veggies then add an egg or two for protein @crazyhorseladycx

I'm still waiting for the cake to finish cooking in the slow cooker. When it is done, hubby will awaken from his nap and sample it. I will enjoy a few pretzels.

So, are you saying that a bourbon buzz is better than a sugar buzz? I'm sure neither are good for anyone.
I didn't buy candy for anyone going door to door, but I don't think there were many out in our neighborhood as most folks are either retirement age and beyond or their kids aren't born yet. I quit buying years ago when we didn't give much out. Easier not to have that around afterward.
I did buy one bag of Twizzlers but I have those stashed to the side out of the way and I only had a few last night and have left them alone today thus far. I couldn't believe all the people buying candy last night, though. No wonder America is in a health crisis. One lady bought some for the Santa parade later this month and another bought them for work, but most will be eating them at home.

I've never had much of a sweet tooth although when I was really young I loved dark chocolate especially with hazelnuts or marzipan, got hooked on that when dad was stationed in Germany. But anymore I don't miss either one, I'd rather have chips n salsa and I don't need to drink bourbon but sometimes it helps when it's soar throat season.
They've actually printed an article about how a small amount of whiskey now and then can actually be good for us.

If you'll be going through surgery then a high protein diet would be beneficial @MarshaMusselman you do add veggies to the meats though, right? Maybe onions and garlic would be beneficial as well.
Mom always gave us a concoction of whiskey, lemon, honey and hot tea if we had a soar throat we hated it because it'd burn going down. Of course we never got more than a teaspoon of whiskey but boy did that burn. Turns out whiskey can disinfect. As for the tea, lemon and honey, I think it was just to calm our throats after the whiskey.
You know it actually worked? Even when it was strep throat.

@rebelann My daughter's throat is swollen right now, maybe I should suggest she get herself a bit of whiskey? I know people used to talk about whiskey and honey and maybe lemon juice too for throat pain, but I don't know if that's just to numb it somewhat or what.
I can take or leave chocolate for the most part. I've weaned myself off of sugar completely and have been thinking of trying that again, but the only way that works for me is following an Atkins eating plan. Since I'll be doing less this winter while preparing for my surgery, I'm going to try to do better eating less of the bad stuff.
