Mom's In The Hospital

Oh my yesterday was quite the day. Mom called my sister-in-law to see if she would take her to the ER as the same day care told her to do. She wanted to get me on the phone. She wanted to know if I went in the doctor with her to which I said no. She wanted to know if mom's hand was as bad off as she said. I told her it was bad and getting worse. She asked me to send her a picture, which I did, and once she seen it, she came right over to give her a ride to the ER. Once there they said she was staying to get antibiotics through IV to get rid of the infection. She should get out tomorrow. I included the picture that I sent to my sister-in-law. What happened is that Saturday one of my cats bit her hand while she was getting the cat food out. She got antibiotics from the doctor on Sunday but Monday it was still getting worse. The infection came fast. For over 6 months mom has been the one to feed the animals and to do all the dishes. It's sure a spin on me to try to even think about doing those things now while she is gone. Of course, if she does go back to her own house finally I will have to add those things back in to my routine anyway. Have a good day! In a couple hours from now we will leave for our bowling league.

@bunnybon7 do not get an animal to please someone else. Nothing will replace Coco, and you do well to take care of yourself. My sister "baby sits" the various pets in her apartment complex, and then she sends them home. Her daughter keeps wanting her to get a pet but she does not want to.

This one has always been aggressive at feeding time. I'm really surprised she's not gotten bit or scratched before since she's been feeding them for over 6 months.

You would have thought they would have just done an IV for awhile and sent her home, but I guess they thought it was bad enough to keep her.

@marsha32 And as I see the picture, she also has arthritis. Maybe that causes the swelling too.

I'm glad too although I feel guilty for being so busy with so many other things that I didn't get her to the ER sooner.

Ooh, that is nasty. Is it an outdoor cat? Makes me wonder if the cat has a dental infection. Tell your mom to feel better soon.

He is in and out of the house. It's the tuxedo one that has the white down one side of his face. She's still in the hospital until at least Thursday.

My mom got very sick from cat scratch fever, a cat scratch can be a very dangerous thing. I am glad she is getting it treated.

I've thought about cat scratch fever. I wonder what they are calling it. I have the same doctor as she does and have my annual on Monday. I will ask him then.

Her hand does not look well at all. I know that cats bites can be dangerous. I imagine I should take care when I give food to the cat of my neighbor.

Most cats would not be that aggressive. He's been like that about since he first starting eating.

It's just the way this cat is...biting the hand that feeds it so to speak. I honestly can't believe in over 6 months this is the first time he's gotten her. Of course I would never have expected if he did that it would be so bad and cause such an infection.

Doing the antibiotics through the IV will definitely get the med through the system much faster @marsha32 .

Yes, I think it's infection. How could the cat bite her badly...

Pretty much it was just an unfortunate fluke where the cat got her and that infection set in so fast.

At first i thought it must have been a insect bite. Since i have seen such reactions to that too...didn't know a car bite can lead to this too. Hope she is getting better. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
