Rather Bummed About This

Most of you know that I dislocated my right shoulder October 6th. Was seen in the ER and had it relocated. On October 19th I was finally able to get in to see the orthopedic surgeon. This took so long after having to go through being drugged up pretty good for several days and then having to go through my regular doctor's office to get a nurse to come out to help me. The orthopedic surgeon wanted to have me get an MRI to check and be sure I didn't rip my rotator cup. So I made an appointment with an imaging place for October 26th. Unbeknownst to me it was a 'closed MRI' and I was too claustrophobic and couldn't stand it for 30 minutes in this close tube type thing. Ugh! (I didn't even know there was both a open and a closed MRI until that day.) That was embarrassing and so I had to schedule another appointment for today, November 3rd, at 1:30p. with a different place that does the open type MRI. I called the taxi in what I felt would be plenty of time. Waited. Waited somemore. Called the taxi at 10 after 1p. to verify everything. They said they were just real busy. I called the MRI office and they said if I was going to be late, even just a little, I would have to reschedule. So, I cancelled the taxi, went upstairs where my calendar was and called them to reschedule. I am not real happy. I haven't really even had a real examination of my arm to see what is going on with it. The orthopedic surgeon was only able to look at the x-rays the ER took. It feels like it is healing and I hope that it is in the right way. It is rather frustrating. It aches sometimes but isn't as tender as it was a week or so ago. It has been five weeks now. Still waiting. In doing some research on how long it takes a dislocation like this to heal I found it takes about 3 months. So, by the time I get in to see the orthopedic surgeon again it will probably be close to half way to healing time. Geesh!

@celticeagle It looks like next year our medical insurance is going to 199.00 a month. I really do NOT want to think about it.

I am beginning to wonder if the cosmos is telling me I don't need the MRI and it is healing fine. But, I don't know until I get the MRI.

The most important thing is that it's going to heal, it's a better than the chance of not getting that healed.

I hope you can get it rescheduled, then call the taxi to schedule the pickup as early as possible so it will arrive on time. That's what I did whenever I had to take a taxi anywhere. If I had a 1 PM appointment, I called at 8 AM. It was always there on time and I made my appointment on time. I've been down that road too many times of calling when I need to leave to be late.

I am going to call the day before. I wondered about the time but no more than that. Now I have a plan.

Glad to hear that you are noticing an improvement in it. Would be nice if you could get it looked at before it heals too much though. I can only imagine the pain.

Yes, it would. Oh ya The pain creeps up on me. I went completely off of the pain pills for a couple of days and it I raise the arm too far it hurts so badly I want to cry. I feel like such a baby.

Well I certainly hope it all works out for you and your arm heals properly. Reminds me of the time I fell and hurt my arm. The pain seemed to be coming from the wrist. So they X-rayed and put a cast from the wrist to the elbow. After several weeks when I had to have the cast removed the arm hurt like crazy so another X-ray there was a fracture in my left elbow right where it bends so back in a cast for more heal time. Take about frustration.Hoping the very best for you.
