I used to love to read the Garfield comics whenever I could, he cracked me up because all he wanted to do was eat and I thought it was just a joke but low and behold mom had one............. Max literally inhales his food just in case he won't get anymore then the idiot upchucks ..... ewwwww, I've almost beaten that problem, I simply feed him small amounts more often and it seems to work most of the time. Have you ever had a cat that would inhale his/her food? Can you give me any advice?

@rebelann rebelann1949, I have not had a cat like that but my cat eats very fast and I tell her to slow down.

Both mom's cats are doing that. I don't know what causes them to inhale their food like that.

I really don't know @Hannihar if they tossed their cookies at mom's house there would be no way to know because they did it in her back yard.

The young back cat of one of my neighbor eats the food at the speed of the light. I only put a little food outside because I fear she can be sick.

She is probably competing with other cats and doesn't get very much. I am beginning to wonder if perhaps Max did not get enough to eat before I brought him here.

@rebelann Poor Max, this could be the reason, now he fears not to have enough food.

Inhale?? That means taking it into his airways - he'd surely choke?

Uh oh, there's that American creeping in again. It's a kind of slang. Some Americans refer to people or animals who eat really really fast as inhaling their food. Don't worry, I'll help teach you American

I think small amounts will work. Never had a cat that inhaled their food. Thankfully....

It must be a breed thing, Max is just now beginning to look good but if I feed him as much as he wants he'll be obese again in no time.

In my experience, most cats are pretty good at rationing their food. My little dogs are good at it too unlike the big dogs I have had.

This is the first time I've had a cat that was a foodaholic, most of mine have always been too picky to eat enough to get fat.
