What does your 'voting' status - have to deal with your health/doctor's visit?

I switched insurance providers, and made an appointment with my new doctor. Upon arriving - I received new patient forms to fill out and 'verbally' was questioned if I'm a registered voter, or not.
I provided my answer and the receptionist verbally says I'm an immigrant and proceeds to clicking on her end on the computer. I told her no, I'm not an immigrant. Then, she goes oh, you are an illegal immigrant.
What is up with the assumptions? Nor, do I understand what does voting have to do with my health. Do you understand?

That's plain arrogance on tha part of the receptionist. She does not deserve to stay a minute longer on the job.

And, I don't understand why that question is asked for a doctors visit.

@sunrisefan She was Asian as well.
Maybe she wanted to 'feel better'. She was an older lady.

I honestly don't know what the lady was thinking. Maybe, they are running some sort of illegal 'procedures' or something there? She said it freely and loudly too!
I corrected her and told her I'm a US citizen, and she goes "OH".
I'm not sure if I like this new provider. I also questioned the nurse about a question on the form I was filling out. She told me she doesn't know and to ask the front desk.
I didn't even provide my social security on my paperwork......After the assumption at the front desk - I don't know if they're very trust worthy.

@infatuatedbby I'd be looking for another doctor, personally. I don't put up with any semblance of unprofessional behavior when it comes to healthcare professionals and their staff.

I actually selected a different doctor upon doing research, but the doctor stopped accepting new patients. So, I was given 'this doctor'. I saw reviews only 2 reviews for the doctor and they were both 5 stars. But I was unable to find any other information.. like school attended, etc and certificates/awards, etc. Kind of fishy.
I called the insurance provider prior to visiting and asked if I can change doctors. They said, yes BUT I had to visit the doctor assigned FIRST and if I don't like them, I can look for another doctor.
I am going to look for a new doctor.

That was a weird question for a doctor's appointment. It's like asking you about your teeth but what you want to do is buy shoes! The receptionist was judgmental. I want to know if you have informed the doctor about it or would that be bad?

Yes - I know what you mean. No relation to my health in regards to if I can vote or not.
I did not let the doctor know, but I don't think I will be going forward with this office.

I will have to request a new doctor and look at the brochure to select one. The original doctor I selected was no longer accepting new patients.
She seemed alright, but I could not find any research about her being a doctor on the Internet like her website, profile or anything.

No I have no clue. i would make sure I get a complaint to whoever is in charge and ask what the hell any of that has to do with it and why this ignorant receptionist assumes you are an immigrant.

@akalinus yes those questions were on the form. But the voting one was verbally so I'm not sure if it's a question for me or she just wanted to know

@infatuatedbby They should be asking questions about your medical history and social history.

Maybe its just the matter of whether you are a citizen or not.
They are just asking for some proofs and documents..to proceed with you.
If you have had any other voter id, you could have suggested it to them..or else Any other document.
And I suggest you to go check this same thing with the people who have been living there...they could help you out by letting you know certain rules and regulations about that place.

They shouldn't have asked anything as voting has nothing to do with anything regarding health.
I provided them my insurance card.

@RitzzView I did not question why they asked such question but I am sure she saw my facial reactions that I was upset at her assumption.

Exactly - I don't even see why it was brought up. And if it was necessary it should be on the form, not asked verbally.

Maybe they are just pushing people to remember to vote. Maybe they figure you must be an immigrant if you have registered. What is up with assumptions? Hmm.

@infatuatedbby It's weird how many questions we are asked by the doctors assistants, but this one is the weirdest.

At my last dermatologist visit, they had me update some paperwork. On one of the forms, it asked for my social security number. I told the receptionist it is a violation of federal law to ask a person for their social security number. She told me they needed it for identification purposes. I again told her that it is illegal to use a social security number for identification purposes, other than for the purpose of collecting social security. She told me that without the number on file, they couldn't provide service to me. I wrote down a fake number, took a picture of the form, gave it back to her, and told her I would be reporting them to the Social Security Administration. By the end of my visit, the office manager stopped me and apologized and told me they were changing the forms immediately to remove the question about the social security number. She pleaded with me not to turn them in. I told her I was still reporting it, but if they truly did change their form like they said they were going to do, then they should have nothing to worry about when the Social Security Administration pays them a visit!

Did you ever return to that office again?
My previous provider is a well known one and they have my social security on file. But now I'm with a smaller insurance branch, I don't know ~ their system isn't all that great and I don't feel comfortable about providing my social security. I did ask a different receptionist if my forms are all filled completed.... And I had a question on a section because I didn't quite understand it. He said he was new and didn't' know. Well thanks right!
So I waited for the experienced guy, he skimmed my paperwork and said all good. So whatever.
I need to find a new doctor's office... this one looks
