This coming Wednesday I'm expecting a pest control company to come make my apartment pest free. They said to have nothing on the floor, and to vacuum under the bed. I have nothing under my bed, but can't move the bed to vacuum underneath. I'm frustrated with a bug situation anyway. Keeping a clean, clutter free apartment I thought would be enough to keep "pests" away! Has anybody had to have pests "sprayed" professionally? Any instructions you had to follow? Anyone else find it a nightmare to deal with such a situation? It reminds me of living in a house in front of a huge field as a child. Every now and then we would have to set a trap for mice. My dad would wait for the trap to catch and quickly kill the mouse, and then chase my sister and I around the house with it. We would scream and barricade ourselves in our rooms. Hilarious to him!

Never bugs we use baby powder. Field mice we did get because California is not allowed to have open fields of plant life because they all die and the are a fire hazzard. So they mow the plant life up and the mice go scurring every where. Lucky we have ally cats and a mean German Shepherd who did not like anyone touching his food. lol

@enlightenedpsych2 I have and they are supposed to use corn starch now, and believe it is a law. In California anyway.

Nope, I tend to handle my pest problems myself.. and thus far we've only had to deal with fleas.. we have gotten some nasty flea infestations in the summer months, but with 5 animals that'll happen. Hubby sees a lot of the other types of pests at his work, as he leases furniture so sometimes when it's returned it is infested. I'm always worried he's going to bring a stowaway home with him and get us infested (his job would cover the exterminator if that did happen), but in over 12 years that hasn't happened yet! Knock on wood.

I fogged/bug bombed my apartment three times. It's been so discouraging. The furniture concern is something I'd be concerned about too. My dad used to visit this couple whose wife was dying of cancer. They had a problem with bed bugs (brought home from the hospital), and every day when he'd come home from visiting them he'd strip every single thing including his jacket and put it in the washer. He was so freaked out.

@AmbiePam Those are the worst! Hubby says if they ever get anything infested with bed bugs they just throw it right in the trash instead of trying to clean it and resell it. They're that dang hard to get rid of! I couldn't imagine and I pray we're never infested with bed bugs!

We have no pests inside the house, I hope that the professional cleaning works and you get rid of them.

Oh, it's not cleaning. They go throughout the place and spray a mixture around the baseboards. They make you stay out of the apartment for two hours afterward.

@AmbiePam I had to call them three years ago for a wasp infestation. They had built a huge nest under the roof of our first floor balcony.

@enlightenedpsych2 The firefighters came and they also had to use those chemical products.

when we first moved into our house, we had issues with roaches. it was TERRIBLE. we fought them on our own, but finally called a professional. we've never had an issue since, though i will put out roach traps just in case.... it was embarrassing to have them like we did... i'm not the greatest housekeeper, but i think they were here when we first moved in because they were that bad.

It's hard to understand how people can find something like this funny - especially when little children are involved - but I guess you knew he was only joking with it. Hope your pests are gone soon.

Yeah, it was terrifying as a child because we didn't know he wouldn't do it. I guess dad's senses of humor are far different than mother's.

@AmbiePam I think some dads just don't think about stuff from a child's point of view.

@AmbiePam It's good that he has changed a bit now. Grandads love their grand-daughters, don't they?

No, my husband will usually deal out on the problem. He use to work as an exterminator, so he is knowledgeable about the chemicals, but can't use them because he is sensitive to the chemicals. However, he knows the habits of various pests and will take action using something as chemical free as possible. I hope it is all clear now, I do remember the m ice when we first moved here and there were hardly any homes. Now there are more homes and less mice.

What sort of pests are in your apartment? Oops - I've just noticed everybody else is asking the same thing - but we want to know. Whatever they are I hope they are exterminated.

Fortunately we haven't needed a pest service. However, our condo in Florida gets sprayed monthly with an organic pest control. Lol about your dad and the mouse. I wouldn't have liked that, either!

That was rather mean of your father to do that. I've had it done a few times, not here, but when I lived in Illinois and California. You need to make certain all your food is sealed and you will need to vacate your house or apartment for a number of hours. Take your animals with you if you have any.

I did that when I fogged my apartment all three times. It's the same apparently with the professionals, I have to take Annabelle and leave for two hours like you mentioned. Fortunately, I have no varmints in my kitchen or bathroom. I wonder if they'll spray there anyway? Probably, huh.
