Hand me Downs

Both my children were at the age where they grew like the beans from"Jack and the Beanstalks" .They really looked as if they sprouted overnight and lost weight too. Their clothes couldn't keep up.The pants were above the ankles and the shirt sleeves were somewhere between the wrist and elbow. So the clothes had to go and new ones bought which was all very exciting for them but not for me.It did hurt buying two entire wardrobes The sad part is some of the clothes that had to be disposed off were comparatively new. They had been used just a couple of times. So rather than give them to the rag collectors ,I gave the jackets and pullovers to people I knew had small children. They did not want them.I was later told by a friend that people will not take clothes worn by others .The reason being- the Karma of the first person will pass on to the next one to wear those clothes. I was surprised to hear this. Have you ever heard of things like this before?...

I've never heard of this. I was always pleased to receive hand-me-downs as we didn't have a lot of money to spare when the boys were young.

@jennyjoy In a new area it can be hard to be aware of local customs or beliefs.

I am always pleased to receive hand me downs, even now. This a common belief in a particular community which we weren't aware of.

This is the first time I hear this. Well, different countries, different habits. I know that here it's very common to give wore clothes to other children and the Moms are very happy to use them.

This belief is restricted to a community.we wore hand me downs when we were kids and all our children have clothes passed from one to the other,so this was a bit of a surprise.Since then i have stopped giving clothes to others.

@jennyjoy It's a shame to throw almost new clothes.

I have never heard of this. I have a son and most of his clothes are already worn (from his cousins). Everything seems to be okay plus we were able to save some money because of this.

That's so stupid. My son got tons of hand-me-downs because 1 of my best friend's had 2 boys close to my kid's age and when they out grew their clothes, I gladly took them off her hands. Who says no to free clothes unless they are just absolutely tarnished? Not this girl!

Generally people pass on clothes in good condition so they are used and not wasted. I still get clothes for my children from their older cousins and am happy too.

I have never heard of such a think before. When my children were younger I was thankful to get hand me downs especiallywhen they were growing so quickly.

Exactly.Children's clothing is expensive, and they grow so fast that they outgrow the clothes.so hand me downs were always welcome.

I shouldn't wouldn't believe in that karma from the person that wore it before. Even if it was true, what if that karma was great?

The only Karma I would know is the money that I would be saving in my pocket. I purchase, I get, and I pass on I don't see anything wrong with that.
