I think I need to express it out. It is the first time I got this feeling towards my students. I apologize in advance for the rant.
I was checking the test papers of my students and I was shocked to find out that many of it didn't have written names. What made me more irritated was finding out that most of the students did not answer almost half or the 50 item question test. I was in a rage and up to now I am mad. I will go to their particular section soon and I am trying to balance myself. My body has been shaking because of what these students did in their exam.
How do you handle your anger?

I can understand if it is only one or two students who forgot to write their name on the test paper. But in that particular section, there was 8 test papers that did not have a written name on it.

Yes, I did it. But then again, when I went to their class, they were loitering around letting their classroom a big mess.

I don't blame you for feeling angry; you're human and you're bound to feel angry or frustrated at times.
The way I handle my anger depends on the situation itself; whether it's big/small, online/offline, etc. I may go off or keep it to myself; I may listen to music or sleep; I'll usually vent to someone I can trust. It just depends on what's going on.

I can relate to you. That is what my nature too. But most of the time when I am angry, I just tell it to my best friend. This is the first time I open what cause my anger in a community like Mylot. I know you guys are a bunch of friendly persons.

@annierose Oh yeah, my longtime bestie hears it in person; and there are two others who get swamped with Twitter DMs, and I love them all for putting up with me and my overly sensitive, bad temper lol.
You can definitely vent here! It's a great community!

We feel the same way here towards this generation of students. As time goes by,we have noticed that these students are getting worse. Just yesterday on my way home, I saw our 2 former students in high school already holding their babies. They are quite young to be called mommies.

Thank you Anna. A good book is enough for me to release my emotion and forget my anger eventually. What are you doing now?

I hope so. Even on the previous grading I receive test papers without names on it. But this grading is too much already..Many papers have no names.

@just4him Sad to say even I would like to do that, I couldn't. I have to ask them again to answer it. Our education system here is not good. It is like quantity over quality here. It is the reason that I would like to venture to another job in which I will be happy and not being trapped in a wrong system.

@annierose If it were me, I would fail everyone who didn't put their name on their paper. It might teach them to put their name on in the future.

That is very frustrating when students just don't try. I am a substitute teacher. Usually I am in elementary school (grade K to 6). For the most part, they try. Sometimes I am in high school and the students waste the whole class because their regular teacher isn't there. I encourage them to use their time but don't let them see how angry it makes me. It is very frustrating.

I do feel you. I am most of the time like that too especially when I am in the lower sections. I hope someday they will realize the importance of education. They need to change if they want to move out from poverty.

@paigea Would you believe me when I say this? I once asked a student why he does not want to study anymore and he answered me he would just like to be a three-wheeler bike driver in their place. I couldn't believe it how could they limit their future in that way.

Some students can finish a one-hour exam for just 5 minutes. I once witnessed a student who just kept on shading the answer without reading at all.

Inhale and exhale. Sure, you feel irritated but letting it pass a bit make you handle the situation better. Maybe if you ask what's the reason behind the action would make you curious than feeling angry.

I asked their adviser and he told me that he kept on reminding students about their test. It turned out that those students were not paying attention.

@annierose Maybe they're more focused on answering the exam. Anxious that they forgot to write down their names.

Some of the students have parents who don't care for them. They need discipline and if their parents cannot do it, we teachers feel powerless to do so. Discipline should begin at home, right?

It is true! I tried to remain calm and it did not help too. I scolded them this day and I couldn't imagine how some students were still able to grin.

I was not the one who proctor them while they were answering their exam. It was their adviser and their adviser explained to me that he kept on reminding the students. I just hoped that he also checked their papers when those were submitted.

Its really hard when you are angry and you cannot do anything at the moment but to burst it out. But of course you need to show some compassion to your students.
