Another group of young people will be leaving the area to clean up some of what Hurricane Matthew left behind. One person told me she is taking her sleeping bag, clothes for a few days and that is it! Someone in charge of the mission will supply water, food, and a place to sleep. Sounds like a fun way to spend a few days! Do you have groups cleaning up a mess left by Hurricane Matthew where you live?

We do not have hurricanes in our area except... the tourists. After the tourist season the students go around to clean the woods, the parks and the lake shore.

It is a disgrace that there has to be a clean up crew for the tourists. We see this here too at the beaches and more.

@PatZAnthony Yes it is a shame. We have garbage bins in every park and along the roads and we use them, so why not the tourists? It's a real shame.

@Marty1 It is every year. The tourists, especially the young people camping near the lakes and the rivers, leave all their garbage there. They do not throw their wastes and garbage, they abandon everything on the ground. Not to mention that sometimes they use the woods just like they were their toilets. It's disgusting.

Hubby's family is from the Robeson county area near Lumberton, where quite a bit of the damage was. The local unemployment agency was sending folks out to help clean up for $14 an hour. Several other groups have volunteered in the area as well. They really need the help, so many people lost everything.

@PatZAnthony Yes the area still looks horrible and I hate the fact that the families are still left with no where to stay.

Yes, they saw that some really had nothing left. But the pile of wood and glass still has to be removed from the streets, parking lots, yards. It is a mess.

What a wonderful thing those young people are doing. As far as I know we did not send anybody, maybe some local guard.

There is just too much work to be done for individuals to do without help.

This is such a good thing to do. Vince and I put in a couple of days helping take down burnt fencing after a big fire near here.

There is so much work to be done. The USA has not finished cleaning up from Hurricane Katrina (2005) if you can believe that.

That is so nice . We also have that group whenever a natural calamity occurred specially , typhoons. It is in those times , when people really do their best to help the people affected to rise up again .

It is amazing how much work still has to be done. People w/o housing-cars ruined-it just goes on and on.

Fortunately we weren't hit by Matthew in Florida or Connecticut. I've had to clean up often from many other hurricanes in CT.
