Oh boy, I went shopping, as you all know and the store was the Ralph's in Newbury Park everyone had their bags and today went off to visit the one in town. Now that was a different story, as the man in front of me paid 80 cents for bags and wasn't happy. He just shock his head at the price. The man in the self checkout went crazy over 20 cents. You could hear him in any part of the store, as he was yelling about the money. I was ready to give him the 20 cents and think even the self checker was ready to hand it over. You know these 2 people didn't vote and the Prop passed by a lot.
I hope the overseas people will tell us what it costs when they don't bring bags to the grocery store, as have seen articles saying its really high. One site said Italy is the highest and hopefully somebody is following me and sees my post.
This is the Prop I wanted to pass more than any other and made calls trying to get it passed. The next time somebody asks if you know anyone that worked to pass something you can say yes. Many years ago I even held a picket sign because they wanted to change the school day by having students start school at different times, so a staggered schedule really hard for working parents.
This prop means all those plastic bags that people are leaving on the beaches won't happen in this state. The last beach clean up that I helped picked up so many lost count. They were every where and after a few smelly bags and animal body (so sad) I wanted to call it a day, but kept going knowing it needed to be done.

Thanks for posting, as I'm trying to see just how much people pay elsewhere. I agree we shouldn't pollute and more than 60% of the people in California agreed that we can and should help the environment. This Prop didn't get the challenge some of the others are experiencing and I'm glad the courts are done with this one.

@Fishmomma As I go shopping at least once a month in Italy, I can tell you that they pay the same price for a bag.

@LadyDuck Thanks I wondered what is considered high, as saw a post about to high in Italy and I don't think that would be hard for working people to manage, if they forgot a bag or bags. I tried to find the posts, but it must be a discussion no longer on Mylot.

i used to waste lots 'f time out here pickin' 'p folks plastic bags that'd either blown outta the back'f their trucks 'r they jest tossed. those danged cows'd eat 'em! i'm glad that such passed there. i've bags that i used to always shop with. the hubs'll not use 'em though 'n brings those awful thingies home. whene'er somebody (usually my sweet momma) comes out, she takes 'em with her 'n recycles 'em 't the store drop-off.
i can only imagine what all shows'p 'long the shores :( betwixt the horrific, damagin' storms hittin' other countries 'n folks outright litterin' - must be a staggerin' 'mount.

Near the end of the day the people at the tables would tell us how many pounds were picked up in our area and it was always a staggering amount of items that people should have put in the trash can.
I expected there would be some people that wouldn't read the door at the store about bringing bags and the fee, but that one guy just was unreasonable. The fee goes to the store, so he is helping to pay for good bags.
