Last Saturday, my Dad, who is nearly 90, was one of the World War II veterans honored in Washington, DC over the Veteran's Day weekend. He was flown to Washington on an "Honor Flight," given a tour of all the monuments, and was presented with an American flag in a special ceremony for his service during the war. Since he is from Missouri, they had him stand in from of the Missouri column for his flag ceremony. Above is a photo of him holding his flag. He was so excited to take this trip. He had never been to Washington, DC before. I'm so glad that he got to go!

@DeborahDiane I would love so much that my father would still be alive. He was also a veteran, he served in our country during WWII.

@LadyDuck - I don't imagine my father will be alive many more years, so I am especially happy that he had this honor.

That would have been such a thrill for him. It's strange how things turn out years later.

@JudyEv - You are so right. I'm sure that my Dad never thought he would be touring Washington, DC at age 90 and honored for his service ... especially when he was a 19 year old sailor!

@DeborahDiane THey should do it every year! So many veterans that die before they have the chance to be honored.

@JamesHxstatic - Yes, my Dad said it was pretty fast and a little exhausting. He also got a little chilly that day. Despite all that, however, he was really glad he went!

@hereandthere - My brother-in-law, who served in the Marines during Vietnam, went with my Dad. They had a wheel chair for my Dad and he joked around and pushed my brother-in-law around in it for a few minutes! They had a lot of fun! I enclosed a picture of my Dad pushing my brother-in-law at the airport. LOL

@BellaDoc - It seems that so much of life revolves around wars ... especially for men. I would love there to be a time when we truly were not at war with someone.
