So Glad That Is Over

This part of it any way. Last week my daughter received a voice mail from Social Security saying they needed to speak to her regarding her check. This sent her and I into a tail spin of anxiety and feeling of sheer dread. (I am always so afraid of something happening to one or both of our checks. We would be destitute. No family, no savings or anything near by to help us. Ugh!) My stomach was already hurting since the news on November 8th which I am still trying to deal with in a big girl way. My daughter had some trouble getting ahold of the woman due to her being sick and office hours here at the district office. Finally, after six days, she gets ahold of the woman. (During that time my daughter had talked to her present payee who said SS was calling people to see if they wanted to keep having a payee.) Not a problem. She wants to keep having the payee. She and I discussed it. She knows that when she is manic she is a spend thrift and needs the payee. The woman tells her that is not the case at all. They are changing the payee. I guess the present one wasn't a real one or something. Weird because she took over for the original one my daughter had had for several years. So, anyway, we wanted to get any paper work done and get the ball rolling with this new payee so there wouldn't be a problem next month with paying our bills. My daughter calls the number the SS rep lady gave her and gets a trailer manufacturing place. Tells me. I ask her for the number and I try it. Same thing. My daughter must have written it down wrong. So I have her call the SS rep again but they closed for today. I decided to call the toll free office number instead of the district office here. We set on hold for 1 hour and twenty minutes! A nice lady named Shirelle finally comes on and looks at Cami's notes, then goes off the line for about ten minutes. Comes back with a new number. (She called the back line number for the district office here and they were in there working and some guy gave her still another number) We call that and .....wait for it.......get a health clinic. I hang up. My daugher and I cannot believe this is happening still again. Then I decide to call the number again and do some detective work. I push the first number in the automated maze and ask the girl that finally comes on the line if this office has gotten calls in the past for this payee place we are looking for. No, not that she knows of but she will connect me over to this other lady that might know more. Not a problem. She comes on the line. I explain it to her. It's her! She is the payee. How in the heck are we supposed to know this? If I hadn't called back and done some detective work we'd be back to square one calling the district office tomorrow. So I set it all up for my daughter. The payee says she needs to tell SS what this number is and that it is her number. Yeah, I was all for that. Gheesh! So how was your day?

I am sure that was a real stressful time for both of you. I can only imagine how many people live on those checks. And if they ever make cuts with social security, many people will become homeless. That always bothered me.

@celticeagle well I know they can't give out info and stuff on YOU, but you'd think on THEM they could. so odd.

@Jessicalynnt .....I think that most of them do it as a second job and so they give their job # in their payee info instead of perhaps using their home phone or cell. I do think they could certainly set it up differently so it isn't so hard for people.

Oh I have been through something like that with all those papers you have to fill out and they make me all nervous too as I am never clear about all of it. Just when I think that I have got the right end of the stick they go and say its something else. Glad you have got it all done. Same went for my pension in England I did a little dance when I got the letter saying yes I had done everything right because it reminded me of a Crossword puzzle.

@lovinangelsinstead21 .....Is there anyone who could help you with understanding it?

@celticeagle Now I can laugh but all those questions. I mean they are in English but in an English that they understand. Because when you think you have got it right you could get it wrong. The Income tax forms I used to fill in were much easier than that.

I was beginning to wonder if my daughter and I had entered the Twilight Zone or something. If that second number had been wrong I don't know what I would do. We are getting these numbers from Social Security for Pete's sake!

I am glad you got it staightened out. These things can be worded so confusingly that even those who are supposed to know what is going on, doesn't.
