The Fire Ant -
Here in Texas we have fire ants. They are really mean critters. They bite. They sting. They build big mounds of dirt in the middle of nice grass lawns and gardens. It would be really wonderful if someone were to come along and figure out how to get rid of those bad bugs - or to pacify them in some way.
It has been proposed by some people (who should know better) that smoking cigarettes is one way to pacify people who are as mean and as pesky as are fire ants.
So, here came one of those brilliant science types who has captured fire ants and is training them to smoke tobacco.
Who would believe that?
They say that seeing is believing. The scientist has posted a photo showing us a fire ant that is just, plain smoking hot fired up.

Great idea! Now they can start ant farms so the critters can earn money to support their nicotine habits. More cheap labor. lol

@clrumfelt - Labor is continuous in the ant's place, but it is also very cheap because they are ever more and more. -Gus-

My sister and son both got accosted by fire ants in Florida. In both cases water was nearby to put out the sting!

@snowy22315 - Hi Snowy - (Cool name...) Sometimes those fire ant bites last for days. Cool water helps. I remember one time being stung rather heavily by yellow jacket wasps. Hurt like crazy until that afternoon when I could go swimming in a nicely cold water hole. I'd guess that your sister and son watch out for fire ants these days. -Gus-

I'm in Fairfield, Texas @Ceerios (halfway down between Dallas & Houston on I-45). Fire ants hate Diatematious Earth (white powder). My house has been invaded many times by those little bast**ds. And I've been bitten so many times, you'd think I had the Measles.

@nanette64 - Ms Nanette - Ah, yes. Many were the times that I took a road break at the Fairfield Diner while driving 'twixt Houston and Dallas. Never was attacked by fire ants in the place. I guess they did not appreciate the good food.

@Ceerios Definitely some good chow there. I guess the ants prefer my body over the good food.

And in just a few years, there will be cases of lung cancer in fire ants!
