Due to a steady decline of criminal activity in that country, the Netherlands will be closing 19 of its prisons.
I think this news is very heartening , especially when one considers the many countries world wide battling with overcrowded prisons and building new ones.
I wonder what it is that country is doing to reap such wonderful gains.
It might be a good idea for the relevant authorities in countries plagued with increasing
criminality to visit the Netherlands and get some tips on stemming crime.
I wonder how many other countries can boast of closing prisons.

For some countries prisons are big business so they need to keep them full. Seems that the Europeans have a different approach.

This is the happiest news I've read in many years. That prisons are getting closed due to decline in criminal activity is something to rejoice about.
