Christmas Eve is Back on!!!

I came up with a brilliant idea, which my husband didn't think was too brilliant but my sister did so we're going with it. The purpose of having my mother Christmas Day is so that she is not alone on Christmas. I suggested that I still have my Christmas Eve dinner, make a lot, then take left overs to my mother's residence and spend the afternoon and dinner there with her. Then there is no driving back and forth and back and forth again, and because she has dementia, it would be less confusing for her. She wouldn't have to dress up, etc. So I will still do Christmas Eve here with the girls and their boyfriends and they can go to their boyfriends' on Christmas Day while hubby and I go spend the afternoon with my mother at her residence. So that has cheered me up a bit. And I spent a nice afternoon lunching with our writing group and then chatting a little longer afterwards with one of them. So my mood is picked up quite a bit from yesterday. Then I got home from lunch, checked my cell phone and saw I won an Instagram contest through Jackie Shultz (Howie Mandel's daughter). I get another t-shirt (I already bought one) which I will wrap up and give to my older daughter for Christmas as she really liked mine when she saw it. Hmm... I guess I should check the lottery ticket that has been sitting in my wallet for a couple of weeks. LOL!

Congrats on the win! I think you should check the lottery ticket, as people do win money. My daughter has won small amounts. I think your plan is a great one to make it easier for your Mom and the rest of the family.

@Fishmomma I had a lottery ticket that won $20 a couple of weeks ago. And I went for Chinese food today so I got a fortune cookie. The note inside indicated that I would have wealth in my future. As someone pointed out it doesn't indicate how far into the future.

That is great you get to spend Christmas with your mom at her home. And you are so right with her having dementia better to not confuse her to much.Congrats on winning in the contest.

@Tina30219 I think it is the perfect solution. Beats driving back and forth 4 times in one day. And if I make enough dinner Christmas Eve I can take it to my mother and she'll have a home cooked meal, granted re-heated in a microwave.

@KristenH I won a t-shirt from the vlogger. I had already bought one but my daughter liked it so I'll give this one to her for Christmas. And there was a company sponsoring the giveaway. They make some kind of plastic storage envelopes.

@KristenH Hmm... I thought I had posted a picture here, maybe not. She calls her followers the Sprinkle Squad. She loves sprinkles. So the picture on the t-shirt is an ice cream cone with sprinkles and of course the words Sprinkle Squad. It's a black t-shirt made of the softest cotton I have ever felt.

Good luck with the lottery ticket and I'm glad you've sorted out the Christmas arrangements to your satisfaction if not quite to your husband's.

@JudyEv Ugh! There's another small glitch. Just waiting to hear back from my sister. It appears the residence is having their Christmas meal at lunch time. I told my sister there was no way we would be there by noon. So do we really need to bring her another supper?

@JudyEv It's not that he didn't like the idea. He just thought the idea was to get my mother out of the residence but my sister agreed that it is more about her not spending Christmas alone.

@patgalca Glad it's going to work out. It's sad if the elderly have to spend Christmas alone.

When you say that your husband doesn't think it's a brilliant idea, do you mean that he doesn't agree with hosting on Christmas Eve and visiting your mom on Christmas day?

@yukimori He thought the purpose of taking my mother for Christmas was to get her out of the residence but it is really just so that she is not spending Christmas alone.
