WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Mysterious box. No return address. Misspelled Recipient's Name.

United States
November 26, 2016 8:00pm CST
This afternoon - the delivery man was pounding the door since no one heard the door bell. My boyfriend opened the door and was prompt a 'mysterious' box and was asked to sign for it. Upon signing and bringing it in - the box was misspelled name wise (for his mother), but the address was correct. He called his mother and she wasn't expecting anything and with scams now a days we don't want to open an unknown box. There was no return address, but there was a phone number. I did some 'research' and inputed the number on Facebook and surely found the sender....The power of Facebook! Have you ever received a package, box, mail that you do not know who the sender is from? Do you open it with caution?

So you still don't know what's inside the box and it's inside your house? That might be a bomb LOL!

I would be suspicious of any package I received that I didn't order. If I knew I didn't order anything, I would refuse delivery.

My boyfriend didn't know whether to refuse it or not, since it was for his mother. And being the holidays sometimes his siblings order stuff and maybe shipped it here instead of where she lived. Turned out I was able to locate who on Facebook using the phone number on the box, told his mother and she knew who it was. Then, told us its okay to open!

Hmmmm, that is strange - because almost all the time there would be some kind of address (never a phone number - I think). I rarely order anything, so I know what's coming if I do . . . and anything Hubby orders he has it sent to his work since we can't always trust packages being sent here (our neighbors have gotten their packages stolen). I guess if it happened to me, I sure would open it with caution!

@infatuatedbby Ah, then I guess that's why it was signed . . . so the sender knows that it actually got in the hands of where it needed to go. I make sure I put a return address for any package I sent - with all that I most likely spent on the contents, I'd sure want it sent aback to me if it somehow doesn't make it to the intended destination.

@much2say i would be sure to put a return address too! But I think that's why the sender put signature confirmation... and if anything they probably had insurance to cover the contents.

Oh getting packages stolen isn't very nice especially now since its the holidays! People are keeping their eyes open! Most time its encouraged to have a return address just encase, but I guess the sender doesn't want us to know where they live!

Never received any mysterious boxes, but I've received some mysterious mails. Since the mails were trully addressed to me but without the senders' names, I felt free to open them. No caution. Back to your mysterious box, have you already opened it? What is it?

I don't typically open mysterious mail. I've read some poison with anthrax or something Didn't open the box yet it's addressed to his mother.

@infatuatedbby I tried...but no address! The address is mine. I went to the general area to do some scooping out but it was scary. I left. I open the letter and it was electricity bill.

I would probably not open a box like that. I haven't had that happen, but a friend had something similar (not exactly the same) happen...apparently someone had signed her up to receive samples and junk mail and things like that but put the wrong name...always some weird name that was obviously made up. Never did find out who but I think it was another mutual friend who was mad at her for some reason.

I'd not want unwanted mail too! But, I told his mother who the sender was and she's going to call them because we aren't expecting anything from them. No idea what is in the box.

@cacay1 The box is a big size. Probably size of a computer tower. Oh it was mailed within the United States, so it doesn't say the contents. Just the company it was shipped from with no return address. But I was able to figure out the sender, so his mom contacted the person ~ but since the time difference, we will call her back tomorrow to ask what is inside..

The box was not ticking It ended up being clothes. There was only a phone number, but I couldn't tell if it was the company - a small postal service but I just inputted it in Facebook and boom, a name popped up. Asked my boyfriends mom if she knew them, she said yes =) And she called & they said they sent clothes for her grandson.

Once we get a parcel letter on our home address, it was correct address but all To and From were mystrious as there was no such person living in neighborhood either. So we returned it to the Head post office. Next day the postman knocked the door to give us the same letter, but we told him there was no such person and that we returned the letter to the post office It was mentioned to somebody else and by some stranger and such parcels should not be opened

Yes - you are correct, some parcels should not be opened because it can be dangerous or with anthrax. We never know. But I was able to track down who the sender was. And my boyfriend's mother knew the sender, called her. And, it was her who sent a gift to her grandson (my boyfriend's nephew) so everything worked out!
