From December 2nd to December 4th my local Food Share is looking for canned foods. Check your area to see, if they are also doing what this Food Share is doing with the cans. They are making canned trees and each tree needs 600 to 800 cans. There will be two 14 foot trees made from 10,000 cans. The Charter High School is assembling the trees and the school is near my house.
My local Food Share is in trouble as depleted their warehouse shelves, as higher need this year. I was stunned to learn 1 in 6 people needs food just in this area and many people do have jobs, but they work part time and some work two part time jobs and still its not enough to provide enough for every meal.
This is a fundraiser and I hope they are able to get enough cans for every tree that will be going to Food Share. I will try to get a photo of a tree. I still need to get the other photographs up from my trip. Have a good week and I'm off to take my canned food coupons to the store for a box of canned foods.

the outrageous price 'f goods 's lots to do with so many goin' hungry these days. i'm glad yer able to contribute to the cause.

Food prices have gone up a lot over the years. I remember years ago when my daughter attended school not many received free lunches and now large numbers qualify for free lunches in several cities near me including the one I am taking the cans to this weekend.

@Fishmomma yes ma'am :( the further they've gotta be hauled, the more spendy they'd be. 'round these parts they've e'en free breakfast (the schools) fer those who're'n need. our society continues to degrade.

I'll let you know how we are doing in December. I'm hoping we can get every tree done. Its so important to know children are well fed every day.

I know people are hungry all over the world. I'm hoping to bring some awareness to a growing problem. Clearly, there are a lot of charities seeking help; specially, during the winter when its colder in some parts of the world. I can't afford to help them all and realize other people can't either.

We do collect dried foods during the year. This is a special canned only CAN-tree Collection this is the fifth year of this special three day event. I decided to post it because of the high need in my area and wanted to make others aware of a serious problem in 2016. People are going hungry and Food Share is trying to collect and distribute 12 million pounds of food. I found the figures so staggering that I'm hoping people that can will donate a can or more to make a difference in somebody else's life.
