ahhh so THAT's how I can lose my American Citizenship (please take this with the utmost humor)

Instructions before reading this discussion : Please take a grain of salt and glass of water with this discussion If you are easily offended, well this isn't the discussion for you. I was walking through to my bedroom when I heard a news reporter reporting on a Trump Tweet. Apparently, anybody who burns the American Flag could face jailtime or loss of their citizenship. It doesn't seem as if trump clarified between a burning of the flag in protest, or in disposal of said flag. So theoretically he and his cronies (hehe) could be driving by my house one day and there I am, out in the yard, disposing of the American Flag. DISPOSING being the operative word. The proper (and respectful) way to dispose of the flag (as far a I am aware) is by burning it. Though there is a ceremony about it, and a specific folding to be done. When OUT of a black SUV pops the secret service like their casting for a role in the next MIB movie (psst... I don't think there's gonna be another, so don't get your hopes up.) "Hey Lady! You just burnt that flag, it's off to another country with you! You're no longer a US Citizen!" "I get to pick the country right?" Article giving more detail to aforementioned tweet is (CNN LINK) : How to dispose of the American Flag : http://www.wikihow.com/Dispose-of-a-Damaged-American-Flag What is the respectful way your Nation has picked for disposal of it's flag? *Remember the grain of salt! This is picking more at Donald Trump himself than it is The American Flag, it's people, and what our Nation stands for.
President-elect Donald Trump proposed on Tuesday a penalty -- including possible jail time or loss of citizenship -- for burning the American flag, in spite of two US Supreme Court rulings that protect the act under the First Amendment as a form of free sp

Trump is such a moron. Flag burning is protected by the Supreme Court.

You think by now there'd be a lock on his twitter, nothing can be posted until someone else checks the facts for him... It's sad that his stupidity is such an enteraining thing.

Supreme Court called it free speech and that is good enough for me. Trump's head is up his tweeter I guess.

Does he employ a head when he is tweeting? would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

I am pretty certain it has been there for quite some time. He says things and doesn't check facts, doesn't think before he speaks, and generally makes himself into the monkey in a suit he is. The campaign race is over, and I had hoped that if he were to be elected, he'd mature. It doesn't appear that will happen.

I read somewhere that his treasurer was a former Goldman Sach's employee of some standing? I don't care how far up the totem pole that guy was, we don't need Corporate America as the foundation of our new leadership!

Darn.. maybe I should clean up my firepit to make sure there aren't remnants of the flag in there, as I habitually burn one per night as part of a sacred ritual!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I've never in my life seen so many people up in arms over a new president elect. I'll admit I did not vote for him..I did not want to see him president.. but there's nothing we can do about it now, except wait out the next 4 years. Normally all this complaining is over and done with as soon as the election is over.. but not this time.. people are really ticked!

@katsmeow1213 Yes, I can understand how they feel. I didn't want him in office either but I do think people need to just stop and wait it out like the rest of us.

I know! I'm just not sure where he's getting this anger about the flag from. He wasn't clear on it, but people speculate it's because of the college that took their flag down and burnt it? I hadn't heard about it until now but apparently in protest to his status as President Elect.

The fact that he ignores SCOTUS rulings is very troubling. Freedom of speech just isn't on his radar, and that's one of the most basic principles America stands for. The Electoral College can't in good conscience uphold the electoral votes, can they?

It's not the will of the people...Maybe if we are lucky, something will happen with the recount..it is our thin last hope.

From the little I have kept apprised of, it appears we are heading towards a Donald run America. That is a very frightening fact indeed, and I fear the falling of our democracy.

@snowy22315 Thing is, the Electoral College isn't about the will of the people. It's about preventing demagogues from coming to power in America. It's one last failsafe should someone manage to swindle the people and get the votes needed without the qualifications to run the country.

I enjoyed your story since the media is trying to make Donald Trump the next Manuel Noriega. Noriega was the former military strongman of my native Panama even though I was born in the former Canal Zone city of Ancon.

Trump fancies himself a "strong man." We don't to those in the US. Noriega ended up in jail. Hmmm, I wonder if that could happen.

@Deepizzaguy I agre with @JamesHxstatic he fancies himself a "strong man".... but what I am worried about is all of this political power he'll hold in his hand... I don't keep up with him in the news very much, but the last I heard he had some former High end department store higher up as his treasurer. I don't want the white house filed with people with no experience!

I should probably clarify that it's his proposal. There has been two cases that well, trumps him. It is legal to burn the flag in protest, provided it's peaceful. Atleast as far as I am aware. Overall, yes, a lot of what trump says leaves me speechless.

@ScribbledAdNauseum the fact that it came from his big orange mouth that it's 'legal' to burn the flag in a peaceful protest.. ayy! I don't know. if there will be a peaceful protest- it will not involved burning anything. Cause it's called 'peaceful protest.

@therealmaryyy That was a Supreme Court ruling, not something Trump said. It's entirely possible for a peaceful protest to involve fire, particularly if it's done as an artistic expression. Definitely not the first thing that jumps to mind, though... It seems more the domain of a disgruntled mob.
