I think we have to quit our Christmas tree book project

A few days ago a facebook friend shared with me a photo of a tall stack of books shaped like a christmas tree. It looked really neat. I decided to try making it last night. I thought it would be fairly easy. About 10 minutes in I was ready to quit. My daughter saw what I was doing and wanted to help. Our bookshelves are upstairs so she ran up and down the stairs getting stacks of books. She was a huge help and had a lot of fun with it. We are about 1/3 of the way through and I think this is just going to be to hard to complete. I have enough books so that isn't the problem. I might try tearing it down and getting rid of all the hardcovers and using just all the same size paper backs. I added a photo of what was done in about 2 hours last night.

That is a really cool idea and you are doing good so far. I hope you continue with it. I think it will look great when it is done.

It looked liked a wishing well at this point. I did finish it a few minutes ago and will post a new discussion later and share the photo when I get some extra time.

That's a neat Ida. It wouldn't be too practical in my house....too many grandchildren running around.....four under the age of six.

My kids are pretty careful thankfully but my boyfriends son is hyper and naughty and likes to ruin things so I am wondering how long this will last when he is around.

It is a creative idea, and a clean one : books do not lose pine needles.

@topffer If I lived alone I would not decorate either.

Very true. My actual tree is an artifical tree and smelled musty from my cellar. I had an essential oil that is pine scented and rubbed it on the tree to make it smell better. I haven't had a live tree in a very long time. Probably only one time in 13 years or more.

@shaggin I live alone and I do not install a Christmas tree since many years. I have a preference for live trees, like many people here, but I have to admit that artificial trees are offering some advantages.

I had seen one last year poste. This year on a post sharing the photo it said who do you know who has enough books to do this and they tagged me and posted it to my wall. I said I defintiely have enough books and said I will see if I could get my kids to do it with me.

@Tina30219 My son would not help but my daughter was a big help last night. I did finish this a little bit ago so I'm excited for my bookworm daughter to get home and see it.

I can see how it would be really effective when it is finished. It does sound like a fair bit of effort though particularly running books up and down the stairs.

I saw a similar photo on FB a few days ago and I thought it was a cute idea! I don't have enough books, since I get mine from the library, so I can't wait to see yours all finished!

I believe they originally started these book trees in libraries. They have a much larger selection of books the same size so creating one there would be a lot easier then the assortment I had to pick through.

Haha well I thought it would be easy but it was not. My first attempt came out okay. I did finish it and will post a photo later :-) It is a bit leaning so I am calling it my leaning tower of books tree.

I thought it was a really cool idea and it turned out to be a fun challenge and gave me some exercise running up and down the stairs for more books.
