Laguna Beach and the Christmas Spirit

Now that my Christmas presents are bought and mostly wrapped, my Christmas cards have been mailed, and my house is decorated, I am relaxed and looking forward to holiday parties, Christmas cookies, hot chocolate, feeding the homeless, singing Christmas carols outdoors on Christmas Eve in the rose garden of our church, and long walks on the beach.
Those are a few of my favorite things about the holidays.
This is a picture of the Madonna and Child statue that sits next to my church in Laguna Beach.
It seemed like the perfect Laguna Beach sculpture to put me in the Christmas spirit.
By the way, there is a nice post going around on Facebook. It says:
"If you want to put the Christ back in Christmas ... feed the hungry, cloth the naked, forgive the guilty, welcome the stranger and the unwanted child, care for the ill, love your enemies."
Now that's the Christmas spirit! I just hope our politicians have some love and Christmas spirit in their hearts, too, because I wish, as a nation, we would do those things, regardless of each person's religious background. Those are all good goals for humankind ... and Jesus knew it.

@DeborahDiane Well, it's starts with one person, then spreads to a second, then a third, and so on! It needs to be a grassroots effort!

@DeborahDiane As every celebration. People run around only thinking at what to eat and what to buy. I am sure that some children do not even know what Christmas exactly is, same for the Thanksgiving.

@LadyDuck - Yes, Christmas has become much too commercialized.

@LadyDuck - I agree that there are probably millions of children, in the United States alone, who do not really understand the purpose of Christmas and Thanksgiving.

@crazyhorseladycx - Yes, we need to focus on what the season is truly about. You will be pleased to know that this sweet little Madonna and Child statue sits along the sidewalk of one of the main streets in Laguna Beach, across the street from the post office, the city hall and several popular restaurants ... and not in a back garden. It is truly set out for all to see and enjoy.

@JamesHxstatic - I hope our country will shift someday to really caring for each other. I'm not seeing it right now ... but I can hope.

@JamesHxstatic - Yes ... it would be too depressing to not believe that things could get better in the world.

Love one another. Think of others before yourself. Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone remember Christs words.
