Gas Pump Advertisements

Gas Pumpertisement

-A quick rant- I'm really annoyed by the gas pumps with the t.v. screen that play advertisements and clips of weather reports, general news and clips from t.v. shows. I just find them very distracting. The last thing I need is to hear Jimmy Fallon in the background kissing up to a celebrity on the interview couch. I'm just there to fill my car with gas and maybe, if needed, give the windshields a good cleaning. I don't need to know how hot or cold it is. I know because i'm outside putting gas into my car. Nor am I in the mood to hear what current events are going on the world. Or how many points Lebron James scored. The whole media market of advertising is everywhere! Leave me alone! Quit following me! I've read in the past of how there's some similar t.v. screens are on the top of the upright urinals in mens' restrooms and on the back of the stall doors facing you while you sit and drop a number two. The only alternative I have in controlling this onslaught of ads, is pressing the mute button and just purposely ignoring the screen. But I swear, one of these days I will snap and just beat the living pixels out of the display screen! Photo by me, Plethos

Move to England ... we don't have these, yet! Of course, the price of our petrol would probably give you a heart attack inducing moment, so ideally you would need the distraction!

I've never seen that at any of our gas price, but why do they think people need a TV while pumping gas?

i dont know. but i remembered a news report on how using a cell phone can cause the vapors around you to "ignite" by static electricity( i think) . ive also started wondering if these t.v. screens would somehow be in the same threat. im sure its impossible, knowing that the gas pumps are run by electricity, but the little over thinker in me just had to go there.

@Plethos I can see why you would think that; I think the distraction is a threat enough. People need to pay attention, even when pumping gas, rather than watching TV.

We don't have those yet, Plethos! And I don't want them, either! I agree, I would rather have quiet time with my own thoughts while filling the gas tank on my car... Apparently, businesses don't believe we can enjoy our own thoughts if something isn't being shoved down our throats every minute of every day!

@DianneN - the thing i hate the most about t.v. commercials is the purposeful raising of the volume by the commercials. you have to mute during thier playing.

Thankfully that is not a thing here, but it sounds annoying, we don't need to constantly be bombarded with adverts, it might be nice to have a break every now and then.
