Wow, only 17 days left to make those gifts

That's Spunky, he was about 5 weeks old here.

So, are YOU making a special gift for your family members? You still have 17 days to complete those tasks, hey, John Boy did it, right? Somehow I get the feeling that all of you are giving those special gift cards so all your loved ones can go buy the thing they really really wanted. I miss those times when the biggest boon about Christmas was spending time with family with or without gifts. Mom always said that best gift she could give us was that special meal she'd cook up from scratch, not that we didn't get presents mind you. See? You could bake lotsa cookies or a big ole cake for someone then offer them cheese when they whine about the weight gain. So, tell me, what'll you be giving? I finally found that photo of Spunky when he was about 5 weeks old. I brought him home after a trip to the humane society, some dingbat was giving them a momma kitty and all her babies and this cutie pie got loose and climbed up my jeans. When I got home my golden retriever, Gracie, made him feel welcome by giving him a bath and they became best buds. The poor little fella wasn't completely weaned yet. I used Paint.exe to add the text.

I do not give gift cards. I buy something for my 6 year old granddaughter. As she likes all sorts of artsy things, I´ll give her play-dogh. The rest will recieve apricot jam. The apricots are not ready yet

Yummmmm, the apricot jam sounds delicious. I remember when mom first bought play doh, I was probably about 13 or 14 so I really wasn't that interested but my sibling enjoyed playing with it.

@rebelann I am currently using Windows 10, but for many years I have also used Adobe Photoshop which eliminates the need to ever open Paint. I also use Ubuntu occasionally, in which case I install GIMP for graphics etcetera.

Ohhhh, so it's available but you never use it @Asylum well, the choice is yours and Adobe is much better than paint. I still prefer Excel over either of them but Excel does not convert to JPG so I use Paint to do that.

Awwww - Spunky sure is a cute one! I really wish we could do away with the whole gift thing. I'd be fine with just getting together to have a meal. I got various stuff for various folks . . . I'd say about 25% of the gifts will be gift cards. Gift cards are just too easy and convenient - I'm glad it's there when I can't "think" anymore. But really I like to give gift-gifts as most of the time I can get away with it much cheaper than I do with gift cards !

I miss the good ole times of the holidays. My one D-I-L did a great job of bringing that all back at Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2016. She cooked both meals and they were great. I was even able to finish my oldest granddaughters afghan.

That's an adorable photo! I wish I had the time and energy to commit to making homemade presents this year. I'll be lucky to squeeze out a batch or two of cookies for the kids... especially if they "help" with the process. Amazon has a promotion going on for $5 off $15 or more of books with the GIFTBOOK code. My older daughter has been really getting into reading lately, so I placed a couple of orders on our accounts and got her a bunch of books. I'm going to give her an iPod Shuffle loaded with a bunch of songs she likes, too. The younger one is getting her own Fire tablet since she loves stealing her sister's, along with a set of magnetic tiles. I'll probably get a pack of Play-Doh for them to share and a few other things, and they're getting a few little things in their stockings. I'm also going to print some "coupons" that they can "redeem" with us for things like a trip to the trampoline park or Build-a-Bear. That's as close as I'm probably going to get to gift cards this year.

@rebelann Yeah, Christmas is our biggest gift-buying holiday. I'm actually having trouble with it because I grew up in a family where the kids (aka me and my younger cousin) were loaded down with dozens of presents every Christmas. I keep feeling like I'm not getting them "enough" for the holiday, even though I know that they'll be thrilled with everything they get. So thank you so much for that comment... sometimes it's easier to accept an outside perspective on things.

You are welcome @yukimori you must be very young because the idea that parents wanted to give lots of toys to their kids didn't really start until the late 1960s. When I was a kid our presents consisted of the clothes and supplies we'd need for school and one toy or what not, dad was only a corporal when I was little and became a sargent when I was about 14, back then the military didn't pay very well unless they were officers.

I'll bet your's are a hit with eveyone, it means so much more when someone takes the time to make something themselves ..... photos weren't much of a hit with my family though, I guess they just didn't get that I took those shots especially with them in mind.

Spunky is so cute, he has a perplexed look in his eyes, cats do not really appreciate to feel wet.

He was so tiny and Gracie was probably the first dog he had ever met but he liked being close to her because she was so warm. I am looking for other photos of him with Gracie, I used to take a lot of photos but not all of the film I have has been transferred to a cd.
