Today is a holiday in Italy to celebrate the Immaculate Conception. The shops are all open and no doubt the streets are buzzing with people buying their gifts. I don't like being amidst that crowd so I went out this morning when there were not too many people about and did some of my shopping. This afternoon I put up my Christmas tree, a fake one which has now served five times and still showing no signs of wear. Each year I put all of the decorations away seperately and then hang them again the following year. This year I have not got enough big balls though. There are a lot of smaller ones but the big ones which I usually hang towards the bottom are very scanty and I will have to add some more. I don't remember breaking any last year but I can't understand otherwise why there are not enough Do you usally buy new balls for your tree each year? Or maybe you don't even put a tree in your house...

I have spare balls and I'm trying not to laugh as I type this - If you were closer I would give you my spare balls.

@AbbyGreenhill If you say so. I thought it stuck to anything that is unused for a certain time. It certainly seems to do that here

Usually we don't have to buy new ones but this year we only have 2 boxes so we will most likely need more.

Hope you find some bargains. They are so expensive here.

Yeah, I would get new balls. Boxes don't look as good hanging from a tree.

Leticia has shown no sigs yet of putting a tree for the two of us. I go every year to my daughter´s house for Christmas.

Do not despair yet as there are still two more weeks for her to get one done

@mysdianait I should tell her to get the tree out. And I should also buy something for her. But tomorrow I´ll go and buy more sugar for my Christmas jams.

Very pretty! We hope to put up our decorations this weekend - and with our little artificial tree, I already know we barely have room to pile on what we already have - so no new balls for us! We have friends who put up completely new decorations around the house every year (it's "themed") but that's too expensive and not practical for us. I'll keep the tradition as my parents did to keep the same tree and same ornaments every year!

@much2say Oh yes the storage space that would be needed is another problem too

Having a different them each year and changing colours would be nice but it is indeed too expensive to even consider so mine are the same things every Christmas. My sister sends a new irnamnet each year but that is all that usually is added.

@mysdianait Yes, and where would all the decorations be stored afterwards? We might get a new ornament as a gift or something the kids made . . . but that's about the only addition too.

We only have a small artificial tree, and there are ample decorations for it, left over from when we had a large tree.

Until four years ago I had many too but then I moved flats and thought I would not have a big tree again so I threw them all out. That was a huge mistake

Well, you've come to the right place if you want a ball... Or balls, for that matter :) Technically, are they classed as baubles as well?

I think we wear baubles but I could be wrong.

@mysdianait We can wear baubles, but a tree, dressed, cannot... Interesting.

not every year..although we seem to have aquired superhero ornaments via my brother.. i did put the glass ones away a long time ago..replaced them with "safe" ones to keep out of the hands of little paws..

My cat arrived long after I had put the tree up and she has been here 10 days now but has not touched any of them. I was expecting that some would have fallen and she would have seen them and then it would have been an excuse to replace them but that has not been the case at all.

Hello MysD! I haven't seen you around in ages. I have a couple of balls which are no use to me any more, so you can have them. I am still quite attached to them, so I don't know if they'll hang well on the tree.

i read through my comment here again @Orson_Kart and see no mention of anything being on offer With the balls that I had I started at the front as that is the part that people see the most when they sit on the sofa here, and when I began to run out of them it is the part at the back that is rather bare. If what you have are going free then that is where I would put them With your comment about it not being like it was in the old days I shall create a new topic for discussion and thank you

Hi there Orson! rest assured that your eyesight is not failing. I wasn't here in the last few months due to a 'hiccup' in the spring but it seems that I am back again. Good to see you are stil here If your balls still have some sparkle then I could find a safe place for them if you can be without them If they hung well in the past then I'm sure they could be exactly what is required at the back to fill up a gap

@mysdianait Good to see you too! I keep having a break from here so I never know who is still around. It's not like it was in the old days so I am not addicted like I used to be. Yeah, I could probably fill a gap round the back, if that's all that's on offer.

We add two new ornaments every year. I found that this year some of my glass balls weren't used. Next year they will be used again. I missed them.

I bought nothing new this year so next year I will buy something extra special. They are all so expensive here but as I skipped this year I can spend more next year

I usually use the same ones for a long time. The past few years I have only put on lights.
