Wearing a pedometer for the day

For cyber school one part of this lesson he has to wear a pedometer all day and see how many steps he takes. It said doctors recommened 10,000 steps a day for the average person.
Today he will barely take any steps... To the computer then to the bathroom or get a drink and back...sitting in a car..then walking around while we get groceries then probably sitting at the computer or playatation again when we get home.
I decided me wearing the pedometer would be more effective to show him how it works as I move around a alot more.
The reset button can easily be bumped is what I don't like.
Just making my son and breakfast and myself coffee I have taken 279 steps.

I wore one for a day. It wasn't accurate. My driveway alive is 300 ft long. According to the pedometer I had taken 25 steps. Ya, right.

The cyber school directions was to put this on the waist band directly over the knee as if there is an is an imaginary line that runs up. When we did that the count was only 1/4 of the steps it should have been. There is also no cover for this pedometer like the one the cyber school directions say.
I then read the directions that came with this pedometer and it said to attach it to the waist band in the middle of your stomach basically. Well that was more accurate and we are getting the correct step count now!

@Morleyhunt I laid down reading for along while and when I got up it was at over 1000 steps. It was at 400 when I laid down. I guess you are right on how inaccurate they are.

@shaggin I followed the directions. My pedometer had a cover. It just didn't recognize my steps....my grandson wore it. It found him without difficulty.

My sis wears one. . she runs a daycare, so she takes LOTS of steps, lol. I don't think she ever has to worry on that score! I'm the one who should start that. God I'm a lazybones.

I am extremely hyper but with the depression and mood stabilizing medicine I take it calms me down so I am pretty inactive anymore. When I worked at a hospital I was always moving. I sit around a lot while doing the cyber schooling with my son.

I need to get one and start doing more. Maybe once he sees how much you do he will do it and think cool.

I doubt it... Video games are a lot more fun for a kid and the pedometer proved to be very very inaccurate.

@shaggin That is true video games are more important to a kid. Maybe santa needs to get you a new better one for Christmas I seen I think it is called a fit bit I know those are expensive but if you have a dunham's sports and are a member of there savings club thing where you get coupons by email you could get one at a decent price with 20% off coupon.

@crazyhorseladycx There is a local church 20 miles away that does a homeschool gym class meet up at 2 pm on Thursdays. Unfortunatly my son has his online classes until 1:45 and so we aren't able to make it to those meetups.

@shaggin There were times that I reached 25,000 but that is when I would walk to work. The average is a little over 10,000 I would say.

That sounds good! I never thought we might take so many steps when we are just walking in the house. Hope your son will be encouraged by you!
I wonder how many steps I am walking in the house every day, by doing housework, "serving" the children, carrying and walking the baby, etc.
Yes, I think it's not so nice if the reset button is easily pressed.

It is pretty neat seeing how many steps we are taking just doing our routine things around the house. I was at 400 steps when I laid down. I laud around reading for an hour and when I stood up it was at 1000 so I won't be using that inaccurare pedometer anymore.

I use to wear one and certainly didn't walk enough until putting on the step counter. It did get me walking more and lost a few pounds. Sounds like that one doesn't know how to count correctly. I'm considering wearing mine again to keep holiday calories from making my weight go up.

I want to have one. I believe that we need to walk a lot. I stay at home most of the time and is not walking a lot so I go a lot outside now because I believe walking is good for health

I wish it was warmer here so we could get out and be more active! It is only about 18 degrees right now and we are supposed to get 3-5 inches of snow tonight.

It is something that I would do just for the heck of it as well not something I would care to do daily. I live a very inactive lifestyle anymore.

I was at 400 steps. I laid down to read for about an hour and when I stood up it said 1000 steps. It wasnt bumped but apparently laying down messed it up.
