Terrorists blow up people in a church in Egypt?

Bleary eyes. First cup of coffee. I read that there was an explosion in Cairo Egypt's Coptic cathedral. At least 25 people are dead, most of them women and children. Another 49 are injured. Then I read that people are celebrating the attack on social media, writing things like "God is Great!" Then I realize that I'm not surprised. Where's the moral outrage? I wonder, emotionless, sipping my coffee. Would Jesus turn the other cheek? I ask myself. Then the words of a William Butler Yeats poem start going through my mind: "The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity." And then... "And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?" Are we really defenseless against this rough beast? Note: Yeats wrote the Second Coming in 1919. It's an easy Google if you want to read the whole thing. It's one of my favorites.

I'm not religious in any way and would prefer if religion didn't exist zealots from every religion are dangerous...the majority of followers are just deluded...some just genuinely believe something and are fairly harmless....that's my opinion.

@Junbalansag majority of believers in any religion believe they are right and other religions are wrong. That's divisive and has no place in 2016 in my opinion.

"If your religion tells you to hurt or kill people, you need another religion". I read that somewhere and it's certainly true. This is a situation that no one wants to handle. No one will solve it because no one will do what needs to be done--kill the terrorists wherever they pop up until there are no more. That is harsh and people will despise me for saying it but look at it this way: There are nests of lethal snakes throughout the world that sneak out and bite people--everyone knows what they are and knows where a lot of the nests are but no one will kill the snakes. Does that make any sense? No we are not animals but we allow a segment of the population to act worse than animals and won't fight them on their own terms with their own methods. This will continue until we let them win. I don't want to kill anyone, not even terrorists, but unfortunately they don't share that sentiment.

Unfortunately, there will be collateral damage. But it seems it has to be done.

I too have in recent times written blogs and posts on terrorism. I recently started a discussion too regarding the killing of Russian Ambassador to Turkey as well as the Berlin Christmas market attack. Indeed, the demon of terror is rearing its head too often and it seems to be bent upon capturing the whole world.

What do you see as the appropriate response? Most civilized people I know don't like the idea of "collateral damage."

There was also a terrorist attack in Istambul, a roof collape in a church in Nigeria, war in Syria, etc. Things will continue to worsen as the madness of mankind increases.

@TheHorse I hope you are a person who prays because all hell is about to break loose! (But I don't know exactly when but we're are not going in the right direction)

I was in a Coptic Church in Egypt. I read that there were two bombings in Istanbul yesterday. Enough is enough!

I haven't heard about this news yet. But I heard that the bomb attacked Istanbul. I really wish I could hear less terrorists attack. It makes everywhere seems to be unsafe today.

It's an amazing how some look at such things. We aren't defenseless but it would be nice to know.the battle is coming. I think that only a real creep would kill by surprise. Not even give people a chance to defend themselves.

this is a rough year, usually Christmas is a time where this sort of thing slows down and people are joyful, this year it seems hate is winning

i didn't wish to 'like' this news . i've yet to see why some horrific tragedies (man-made 'n those nature caused) get diff'rent emphasis. we're only defenseless 's long's we 'llow folks to behave'n that manner.

I've worked with criminals. I've witnessed Schadenfreude. I've thought I was jaded. But this kind of thing is beyond my comprehension.
