Some Stunning, Seasonal Supermarket Service

A couple of my recent discussions have concerned how I complained about poor service at one of my local supermarkets so it's good to be able to post about fantastic customer service (from another chain - I haven't been back to the other one yet!) I don't drive. My girlfriend, due to some recent medical problems, is currently unable to do so. She had been worrying about getting a real Christmas tree this year as she cannot drive one back from anywhere, and online offers seem expensive and an unknown quantity. On Friday evening we spotted some nice ones outside our local branch of Waitrose but they were rather too large for me to carry home. She went in to ask if they deliver but the assistant at the customer service desk said that unfortunately they don't. We were wondering whether a taxi driver might overlook the falling needles it might leave in their car but we needn't have worried. Seeing my partner's crestfallen look, and hearing that she Is unable to drive at present, she offered to drop it off on her way home from work at 8.30pm. She said she loves Christmas and hated the thought of anyone not being able to get a tree! She was as good as her word and flatly refused to accept a tip, despite several attempts on my partner's part. A beautiful tree is now waiting to be decorated and a glowing email is on its way to the company. Have you ever experienced customer service that went 'above and beyond?'

What a wonderful person! That alone will keep you warm throughout the holidays! I have had grocery clerks run after me because I forgot something. I've also had them go get things that I could not find. One time at Winco I asked a worker if they had any more of the crab cakes I liked because the shelf was empty. He went into the back room, broke up a package, wrapped the crab cakes, and charged me just $3 for 6 of them when I usually pay $4.79. I got a break for my inconvenience! What a great store, I give them nearly all my business.

That is excellent service. So often an enquiry about an item that's not on the shelves is met with 'If it's not there, then we don't have it' - and that's obviously not always the case. If the people who served me and you have chosen retail as their permanent careers then we must hope that they get the rewards they deserve.

@asfarasiknow I hope so. When something like that happens I always contact the company and give their name and all the details so hopefully it will help them advance or get a raise!

I don't drive either. I wish I did. But I'm so glad that you got the tree. Sometimes an artifiical tree is the way to go. I never experienced customer service like that.

@asfarasiknow That's terrible. You might have a point about the trees. Oh well.

Artificial trees seem.expensive but, of course, work out much cheaper over the years as they are re-used. My partner has always loved a real tree but we have read that our local council will not be offering to collect and recycle Christmas trees after January - an example of poor service!

I had the same experience, it was not a Christmas tree, but an outdoor table, too big for our car. The sale person offered to drop it off at the end of his turn. There are plenty of good people still around.

And they make it seem as if it's no trouble at all for them.

That's why I glad to be able to share it here. The tree is now decorated and looks lovely - and we got it thanks to her.
