Don’t Let It Get On Your Eggs

I’m sure we have all eaten a meal or two with a fussy eater. Most of the ones I’ve eaten with don’t care what I eat or put on my plate. But occasionally.... One day I was headed to Seattle with a group of friends. We left early in the morning so we stop at a small restaurant for breakfast in Ellensburg, just about the halfway point between Spokane and Seattle. I ordered pancakes with eggs. Our order arrived. I poured syrup over my pancakes. “Don’t let it get on your eggs!” One of the women in the group cringed. “You don’t want syrup on your eggs,” she nearly yelled. “Why not?” I asked. “I like syrup on my eggs.” “You do?” the woman asked. “Well, in that case, it’s okay.” Have you ever been eating with someone who nearly had a fit about what you were eating? Here’s some music to go along with pancakes and eggs:

This is so funny! People are so different aren't they? And some can't understand how others can possibly cope with whatever it is.

This is true even among siblings. I like crunchy peanut butter but my brother won't touch the stuff because like creamy peanut butter. I love turkey sandwiches but my brother hates them unless the turkey is ground up and mixed with mayonnaise like tuna is.

@RichardMeister We make our own peanut butter so no label. My Mom never accepted that she ate peanut butter when she was here. No Skippy label so it was not peanut butter.

@sallypup That's funny. I have a friend that makes his own peanut butter but I haven't done that yet.

My kids can be fussy eaters and I deal with they daily . This reminds me of when I was a kid . . . a friend let me sleepover - and the next morning her mom made breakfast (the family was Japanese/Hawaiian). She made us scrambled eggs . . . and I've always eaten scrambled eggs plain - maybe with a little salt and pepper if anything. But my friend had it with ketchup and soy sauce . I was thinking maybe she was just playing around - but no, this was actually how she ate her scrambled eggs - and her sister too! I am the one who made a fuss about the way she ate her eggs .

@RichardMeister Soy sauce is another form of salt. Tasty.

I've eaten scrambled eggs with catsup on them but I don't care for them that way. I have never heard of anyone putting soy sauce on their scrambled eggs.

@sallypup I use it a lot with Asian cooking . . . just never on scrambled eggs like my friend did. Although I do use it on fried rice which does have bits of scrambled egg in it .

Some people are very picky. I think that they don´t have their taste buds fully developped.

@RichardMeister Taste buds change a lot during our life. But that doesn´t matter.

The woman that got upset was well into her 70s at the time so I think her taste buds were fully developed. I just think she didn't like syrup on her eggs or had always thought it wouldn't taste good. I was a bit surprised when she nearly yelled for me not to let it get on my eggs.

@marguicha Yes. I have always like syrup on my eggs. I know the older people lose their ability to taste things as well as they did when young.

You probably would. Most of your meals there are unfamiliar to me so if you did something someone thought would not taste good then I would probably just stared, too.

When I used to eat eggs I loved syrup all over the eggs and anything else on the plate.

I learned that honey poured onto all of the stew was mighty tasty- I learned that when I was a kid up on an island in northern Minnesota.
