Found Money

I just read a post about picking up a penny you saw on the ground. I answered yes I would bend over to pick up a penny always do. Got me to thinking about the strangest time I found money on the ground. One year during the winter I was going somewhere I can't now remember where but I saw a 5 dollar bill frozen in the ice on the sidewalk. You can be sure I stopped to chip that sucker out of the ice. My question is what is the strangest finding of money you have ever experienced?

I was driving and stopped at a signal. I noticed some bills fluttering on the ground. True! I went through the intersection and quickly parked and dashed out to the sidewalk and gutter where they were. One required a quick dash into traffic lane when clear. Got two twenties, a five and three ones. My greatest "haul."

@JohnRoberts I would have been thrilled, but one wonders how that money was just fluttering around like that,.

I've never found money in any strange ways. It's actually been quite a long time since I've found any money on the ground, though I am usually looking when I"m out and about.

@fishtiger58 You're right, I hardly ever carry cash. Debit cards are a lot more secure because if you lose it you can cancel it at the bank. If someone uses the card you can dispute the transactions and get your money back. But with cash you don't have those options.

@katsmeow1213 that is true, but my brother has had money taken from his account twice to the tune of 3000 dollars, the bank did return it but it took months. Meanwhile he had bills to pay that he couldn't because of that. Those thieves have little machines or something like that they can stand near you and get your numbers off your debit and credit cards. A reason I have one of those rfd or rdf wallets, whatever they call them.

Many people don't carry cash anymore these days, it's those debit cards now it seems. I don't have one of those they scare me I carry cash and have never been robbed

I was out riding my bike when I was about 10 or 11 and found a twenty dollar bill lying in a ditch. There was no one around and the nearest house was a ways off. I picked up the bill and counted myself lucky.

Don't know how strange it is - but it was a $20 bill. The Publix (grocery store) had just opened and we expected a crowd. No crowd and we got a spot near the door - when I put my foot out of the car it landed on a $20. There were no other cars around so whoever lost it was long gone.

I have a piggy bank designated to "found money" only. Nowadays it's usually money I find in the wash. LOL! I have found the odd loonie ($1 coin) on the ground. One day when I was going for a walk I found an array of dimes on the road. You bet I picked up every one of those.

@fishtiger58 Do you give it back to them? I don't. I figure if you're not smart enough to empty your pockets then it's your loss... and my gain. So sometimes I do get paid for doing the laundry.

Heck yea I would pick it up too. Oh yes I have found a lot of money doing the wash. Mostly I know who's money it is, usually one of my sons, they never empty their pockets.

@patgalca If I can figure out who's money it is I give it back as I have more money than my sons do. But if I can't then it's mine lol.

Oh I have been pretty much a found money magnet most of my life, I found dollars worth of change as a child under a tree, followed a line of change down a street, also several dollars but nothing beats my grandson who found a $100 bill floating down a stream!! lol

The strangest happened not once but three times in one day. I parked my car in the parking ramp and as I got out there was money laying on the ground. It was enough to pay for my sons new glasses, which he had lost yet again. Then when I was going somewhere, who knows where, a short while later, I found another wad of money. It was just lying there. I found another wad, yes those were wads of money, a little later. All on the same day in three different places. That was the strangest and I was very happy to make those finds. Since I've only found pennies.

@fishtiger58 No, I don't remember, but I know when all was said and done it was over a hundred dollars, because my son's glasses were close to that.
