My son wasn't supposed to be done with his in patient treatment until December 26th. His corrections officer was kind eniugh to know that he should be home for Christmas. We didn't find out until the 21st for sure that he did complete his program and would be allowed to leave on the 23rd. The 23rd was also our big family Christmas party. Still worried about how my car would do on that long of a trip, I wished to rent a car just to feel safer. I talked my brother inot dipping into the money he hd saved of my mom's money and rent the car. I paid for the gas...and a motel room on Thursday night so that I wasn't doing 8 hours of driving on the highway in one day, plus I would have had to have left about 3:30 am to get there to pick him up at 8 am. The short of what could be a long story of what's been going on with me is.....when I went to rent the car, they had reserved a 6 speed for me. I can't drive a stick shift....I can, but not well, and sure wouldn't do it in a rental car! They said all they had left was this Mustang GT so they would have to upgrade me to it at the original price they quoted me. OMG!! It was so awesome driving around in a car that new costs about $60,000 or more. It was sure hard to want to take the fancy smancy car back! You know, I feel pretty blessed all the way around---I ended up with the money I needed for the motel and the gas in the form of a Visa gift card from my ex husband. My brother was willing to use mom's money for the rental over taking the chance my car would break down somewhere then we would have a real expense of getting us and my car home. We had safe travels both ways. My son is home. And, on top of all of that I got to drive a car that I could ever have only dreamed of ever being able to drive.

@marsha32 Those are the memories to cherish. Specially for those of us who will never be able to have such a car.

Seen the sign for your town and thought at least we could visit for a few in person while we took our break.

And 99% of the time, or maybe 100% they do work out. For example, he was to go on Nov 2 then didn't. Had he, I wouldn't have had the money to get him picked up. And, Mirrors there was right next to the Salvation Army and he got to go over there and get toys and stocking stuffers for his 2 children and his girlfriends children and they sent him home with 2 big boxes of food along with 3 pies and 5 hams too!
