My wife Anne made the front page this morning: 5" x 7"

No, she did not commit a crime or have an accident, nor was she interviewed about her art quilts. She was one of over 100 neighbors of two existing subdivisions who wrote city planners to protest the potential approval of a new development of 192 new homes replacing a very nearby nine hole golf course. It's not the golf course we are all concerned about but the traffic. A two lane road accesses out manufactured home community. There is already heavy traffic on this road for the many homes here and those east and north of us. A gravel quarry is to the east as well and dump trucks speed down the road at all hours of the day and (sometimes) the night. No new signals or traffic changes, including speed limits are being required yet. The proposed new homes will range in size from 1800 to 4000 square feet. New homes in the Eugene area are selling for an average of $184 per square foot, so what the developers call "moderately" priced homes don't sound moderate to me. The newspaper photographer who called Anne after her letter to the editor came over on a cold rainy day. Anne grabbed my gloves to go out to the gate with him, so her hands look pretty funny in the photo. It looks as if there will be a fight over this development with the city. Link to the photo is below.
Eugene’s largest new subdivision in more than a decade is moving through the city’s planning process, alarming neighbors who are wary about its size and the amount of traffic it will draw. Last month, more than 100 neighbors wrote city planners about The N

Good for Anne for pointing out the flaws in those plans. It's as well not to let people walk all over you.

Something similar happened on the north side of Spokane this last summer except they wanted to build a huge apartment complex. People did not like it and sent letters. The project was stopped.

@JamesHxstatic There were other developments that were not stopped though. Speaking of developments, I read about a development somewhere here in the Spokane area that was built sometime in the 50s. It was designed for flying cars. I guess at the time there was a lot of talk of flying cars being in everyone's garage. There were a few of these cars built back then but as you can tell they were not very successful. Can you imagine what it would be like in the skies if cars were flying around up there willy-nilly?

Good for her- these developments are endless and cause traffic and people jams as far as I'm concerned.

Residents of 192 new homes would indeed add up to your existing traffic problem in the area. City planners may have failed along the way.

How nice that your wife is one of those protesters on that plan . Indeed , when our peace and quiet will be threatened we should voice it out to protest , so they will know that it is detrimental to the community's peace, quiet and order.

Well more power to her. Who needs to live in a really heavy traffic area. Our main road here was bad enough and then they built a bridge and extension really close-by. Now during rush hours you can hardly get across the street the traffic is that heavy. I always say to my hubby that we are taking our life into our hands every time. So hope those house go but the golf course stays. Instead if the golf course isn't needed perhaps a lovely park can be built.

The nine hole course and an eighteen hole adjacent are privately owned, so no park is likely. I think that the golf course developers who live on that property, were land speculators from the outset. They were thwarted some years back from getting a hospital to relocate on their property. The proposed development would mean several hundred more vehicles per day on this road.

@JamesHxstatic then you would also have the problem of not being able to get about too well. It was so much better for us too before that bridge came along.

That would be a worry. I hate how you're going along nicely and suddenly a great big spanner is thrown in the works. I do hope your community will be able to make the developers see sense. And well done Anne for writing to the city planners. There is some established fact that for every person who actually puts pen to paper there is another x (is it 6 or 8 perhaps? I've completely forgotten), that think the same but haven't written. Good luck with stopping this. I think you might need it.
