Whenever we go away, as we did for a few days over Christmas, our dear cat Smooch is cared for here at home. He's a very independent cat and prefers his freedom rather than being sent off to a cattery.
We set up house for him in the garage, so we can turn the alarm on in the rest of the house. He has his food and a nice comfortable bed, plus the cat door to come and go through.
We then pay a lady to visit him once a day. She feeds him, and if he's not around, which is often the case, she just talks to him as if he was there. You see, we both know he's usually watching her from one of his hiding places! She also checks the mail box and all the house windows, to make sure there have been no unwelcome visitors.
This arrangement suits us well and Smooch is happy to be able to stay in his own home - even if it is only he garage. He knows we always return.

What an interesting cat. We were adopted by a lovely big tom once when my mom and I had moved to Pocatello. He came and went as he pleased. Sometimes we would just be on the verge of thinking he was gone for the last time when in he'd lemp. He had gashes out of his ears and scars all over him. Poor ole guy!

Gorgeous Cat and I still say I love that name of his too. I know I said it before but will say it again. Nice situation where you can have someone check in on your Cat to see how he is. Love the photo too.

We always traveled with our dogs when possible. Cats were always left at home with the care of our neighbor. Now, we return the cat to our son when we are gone for four months. It's his cat, anyway. We just get him when we are home, because he doesn't get along with my son's fiancée's male cat. Now her cat is at her parents' house. They all adapt very well.

Cats don't like change in their routine. They're more attached to places than people. it seems like perfect arrangement.
When we're going to be away for a couple of day, we have to board our Gremlin because we can't leave him outside. Oh, he cries. But we're seldom gone for more than a couple of days at a time.

We do similar when we go away. A friend will look in on my cat, feed and water him. We haven't been away in a long while, so we haven't needed to do it.

We do the same with our cats. They stay home where they are comfortable and my daughter comes over once a day to feed them and check and make sure they are okay. She will spend an hour or so with them. Your cat is beautiful.

yes, cats like their own surroundings.
