Planning our First Meal of the New Year

United States
December 31, 2016 8:47am CST
For many years I have made a favorite for New Year's dinner. I make lasagna, a nice side salad, and garlic bread. We will probably invite a couple of people over to share the meal with us. Don't need a houseful though. Do you make a special first meal to celebrate the New Year?

Ah, I see a tradition starting! I started this tradition when my kids lived at home. There were a few times when I didn't make it though.

@JohnRoberts I make one that we can have for leftovers during the week. It is always better a day or two later.

I made ham and a turkey for Christmas, it will only be my husband and son here so we are having a simple dinner here tonight. Yours sounds wonderful.

I took out lobster tails for myself for tonight. Have to think about what to make for my hubby. He isn't fond of lobster.

I skipped a few years when I was with my ex-idiot, but do plan a nice meal for New Year's Day. Even if it is just the two of us, it is a good reason to celebrate.

I don't recall my mother doing this for us when we were kids. I wanted to start something that my kids would remember.

@Jessicalynnt when my kids were little I treated them to a pizza from our favorite pizza place. You would get a 20% discount if you brought it home and baked it there. It was a good deal. The pizza was great. We usually had pizza on Christmas Eve.

@ElusiveButterfly we were always at grams and whatever was cooked, was cooked, lol, but I do indeed like the idea. I think we will start a pizza for new years day tradition! lol

New Year's day dinner for us is usually as festive as our Christmas day dinner.

@Kandae11 oh, I now realize that I read your first comment wrong. LOL. We still have our tree up. The decorations are still in place. It looks quite festive in here.

I wouldn't want to have a feast as big as we had for Christmas. The prep is exhausting.

@celticeagle the lasagna came out great. I made 1 large pan and 1 small pan. We took the small pan to my brother and sister-in-law's for dinner. Had a great time!

That sounds amazing! I hope you enjoy it. =) I wanted to make my special chicken wrapped bacon but my husband will be working late so I think that will be saved for another day. I will probably make Fettucine alfredo with garlic bread. =)

Never too late to start a tradition. Maybe their meal will become the meal you choose to prepare from here on in. Happy New Year!
