My New Year resolution

It must be around 50 years since I last made a New Year resolution. It always seemed such a pointless tradition because every year people would resolve to give up something that they like, which naturally resulted in the resolution being abandoned within a few days.
However, this year I have reason to make an exception. As some members will know the demand and restrictions created by my eye treatment made holidays difficult to take, mainly due to the problem of fitting them between appointments.
The year I have made a resolution not to spend the whole year stuck in Manchester, but to make the effort to take at least one or two holidays before 2017 ends. The bulk of today has already passed, which means there are only 364 days left in which I can manage to take a break.
Rather than risk allowing apathy to evolve and watch the year drift by, I decided that I should start now as a safety precaution. I have just booked a 1 week trip to Tenerife. This will not take place until 9th January, but at least it means that I should manage one holiday this year.
Hopefully I may even manage another before the year expires.

You make me laugh, one holiday booked another 9 more to get it, it must be a nightmare planning the logistics of it all.

@kevin1877uk Oh yes, if it had been the same price this week I would already be there.

@Drosophila I have looked at Fuerteventura, but accommodation costs appear to have become seriously high.

I love your enterprising outlook as the Year starts. I dont do resolutions either, but last year I decided to coach myself forward with a kind of incentive "BE CONTENT" I managed quite well, not looking for anymore from life than what life had to offer, even if it meant foregoing some dreams. This year I have decided to "re-invent" myself, with keeping in mind, three years to the pensionable age.

Have you been to the Canary Islands before? Do they have beautiful weather all year long, or does it get cold there in the winter like the rest of Europe? I guess if it was too cold there, you wouldn't be booking a vacation to that location in January! haha Anyway, I hope you have a great time!

Wait a minute. Somehow I thought you were more out than in, in the year 2016. How did I get this impression

@allknowing My eye problems did cause inconvenience, so I had to choose times between appointments or treatment.

@Asylum 10 holidays in a year are pretty good but I thought your eye problem made it difficult to go on holidays. Anyway hope your new year resolution will become a reality

Before the year or the month expires lol!! Well done you, no sense waiting any longer than necessary but how will you wait 7 days?

@BelleStarr That would be great, but us poor pensioners cannot afford it.

We are retired and didn't manage to take as many camping trips as we thought we would. This year I hope to take a long camping and sightseeing trip to the east coast of the US. I have never been farther than Pittsburgh east, so it must be time.

Yes, you have a good start, and now I see your second holiday has already occurred while I've been buried in work and have only managed one myself. It's not a competition as you are quite the world traveler.

@Jeanniemaries You must have beaten me last year because I only took 9 holidays.

@Asylum No, I think not. Not this year anyway. I think I will go north and live back in my hometown for Summer and Autumn. I've missed my kids, but one of them is leaving and moving to California tomorrow. Rats.

So much for that resolution. It sounds like a good one to abandon.

Isn't 'resolution' another word for 'determination'? Glad you are putting your health first. It is good to have a holiday, every now and then.

. I'm casually looking at holidays myself, will probably be booking soon. Tenerife should be pleasant now.
