What is it About New Year's and Cleaning?

I keep checking but no- there's no Scottish background hiding in my ancestry, I don't think. But then why do I always feel like cleaning around New Year's? The Scottish tradition is to clean house from top to bottom to get ready for the new year and it is a very big deal there. I must admit I do feel the same way even more than at Spring or any other time- I guess that feeling that a New Year should have a clean start, so to speak. I've been cleaning the fridge and now--onward and forward! (And btw- I am not a cleaning enthusiast any other time- so something is doing it!) Do you feel like cleaning at New Year's time?

You do know that French Canadian's celebrate the holidays on New Year and that is when they gather and exchange gifts etc. The father of the family also blesses the children, maybe this is just part of your FC heritage. My mother was a cleaning fanatic all year long!! lol I didn' seem to have inherited that lol

ha! That's what I mean as I'm no big cleaner the rest of the time- just around the Nw Year--could be what you said. Do you mean they didn't celebrate Christmas on the 25th?

I never feel like cleaning, but keep up with it everyday. That way, there are never any big jobs to do. As sick as I am today, I used the swiffer and a dust brush, emptied the trash, made the bed, and cleaned our main bathroom. That was a quick clean, because a thorough job was done Saturday.

LOL! I'm not a big cleaner the other times as much but keep on top of things. It's just this time of year where I get a cleaning bug!

Yes, we do that every New Year - clean the house . But now that i am older , i clean anytime i feel like doing it and New Year is for going to church , attending lunch party and just relaxing at home later . We don't have to cook any meals at all because there are lots of foods prepared from the New Year's eve celebration .

We are in the habit of doing a thorough job at the beginning of each month, and then just tidy as needed (vacuuming done daily b/c we have various pets and long-haired humans).

I usually clean everything before the Christmas holidays, to have the house perfectly clean just in case we receive guests. There is no need to clean everything again after only two weeks. Of course I mop and wash floors, but this is something I do every day.

No for me- it's at this time although it is pretty clean at Christmas- it's just extra jobs I feel like doing. Not so much all the rest of the time!

I don't like cleaning at ANY time. Oops, I've just seen that Joanne has said the same thing, but it's true.

It's not that I like it but I guess 'feel like doing it' around New Year's- while I don't really any other time! Strange!

Yes I do, but I was able to quash the enthusiasm for it this time. It's much more fun to myLot.

I usually clean after I take the tree down and pack all the decorations away. It is nice to have everything clean for the new year. I am not much of a cleaning enthusiast though.
