Two hours to cook, fifteen minutes to eat

I love to cook so it does take me a couple hours or more to prepare a good balanced meal. However, I am always alarmed at how quickly the meal is consumed and I am sitting at an empty table gazing at the remains - if any - of the meal. So I often ask myself if it is worth the effort to spend hours preparing a meal that is consumed in a few minutes. I guess it is unless you prefer to eat out of a can or eat fast foods. What are your thoughts?

This is what used to get my goat too - all that effort gone in a few minutes. My husband does most of the cooking now and still spends a lot of time preparing a meal. Although it might seem a bit of a waste it has to be much cheaper than eating out and much healthier than having fast food.

A husband who actually chooses to spend time doing the cooking must be quite an asset. The last time my husband cooked a full meal was after I had my second hip replacement. The time before that was when I had my first one! I've run out of hips now ....

Much better than fast food and some canned or frozen stuff. So I guess the time is well worth it.

@Freelanzer I'm sure it is. Meal preparation is pretty endless though isn't it so it's no wonder we get a bit over it.

Nothing beats a home cooked meal even if it all gets eaten in a few minutes. The time and effort put into it is well worth it.

Now that is a good idea (batch cooking) I have tried it a few times in the past but never kept up.

@Freelanzer When you cook for one, it does make things cheaper, and probably decreases prep time in the long run. Just remember to label the food when you put it into the freezer!

Perhaps that is one reason that frozen meals were invented.

Time is a scarce commodity in our world today so we have frozen foods and fast foods to help out. They are not bad in a pinch but I can't stomach it on a regular basis.

my thoughts are that looks delicious plus you must be a good cook so you should feel good about it going so fast. i would.

Cooking does take a long time compared to eating it. But I do love a good meal so it is worth it. =)

I seem to spend too much time in the kitchen too and the same thoughts cross my mind several times a week. I cheat a little by making enough food for two days sometimes. My husband doesn't really like that but then he isn't the one standing in the kitchen for a long time. It is better to try a few short cuts than to gradually get resentful of the situation.

You know it is when it is all gone in a few minutes.
