I thought I might get back here today. To be honest I was just so tired all week that I have been a bit like a doormouse sleeping at every opportunity. Maybe tomorrow I will Mylot some more.
I keep saying "maybe tomorrow" on a lot of stuff at present.
Meantime can anyone tell me.
Is a rice cooker a jumped up slow cooker or do I really need both?

We have both. It will depend on what you are cooking.

I have a rice cooker and have never used it. I have no idea what to use it for besides rice which I cook in a pot on the stove. Is there other uses for it?

i am asian so we eat rice every day for lunch and dinner and cook another dish on the stove to go with it.
we only cook rice in it, but some models are equipped with steamers.
i like that after i wash the grains and put the right amount of water, i can just plug it in, press 'cook' then attend to the meat/fish/veggie dish that will go with it.
unlike the traditional metal pot (kaldero) that we put on the stove, the rice cooker does not overflow once it boils, and the result is always the same.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know--but I cooked rice the other day for the first time myself. Didn't use a rice cooker.

I have never used one. Having rice that is perfect will be nice I guess.

I don't think a rice cooker could cook the things a slow cooker does. We do use our rice cooker regularly. The rice is perfect every time. It can be put on ahead and it keeps the rice warm and so it's ready when the meal is. But a pot on the stove was always good enough before we got it.
