Worked Hard All Day Melting Ice, And They Still Closed School

I've been hard at work all day, myLotting, supervising the sun as it melted the ice on the road and driveway, and signing up for a Master Class on writing with James Patterson. The myLotting and melting have gone well. As shown in the photo, the road out front is free of ice and drying well. A short time ago, I got a call from the school district. It seems all my local efforts at melting have been for naught. There will be no school tomorrow as other areas of the county have not been as diligent in their melting work as I have. On the plus side, it means more time to myLot, and a chance to get a great start on the writing class.

It's nice to get the cancellation the night before. We had dinner and drinks last year with Andrew Gross, who wrote a few books for James Patterson. Patterson gave him an outline and had to approve each book. Andy is a writer, also. His latest is One Man. I should read it.

Wow! I'd love a chance to meet Mr Gross. I'll definitely look up his book. If I am extremely lucky, and impress Mr Patterson with my work, I can win a chance to co-author with him on an upcoming book. I've read a few of his YA works, but should probably read some of this other genres so I can better understand his writing style.

Enjoy your extra day off. I am assuming no one will need me to sub tomorrow after two weeks off

You wouldn't think anyone would need a sub after that, but best to be prepared.

@DWDavis True enough. I have subbed on the first day of school and on the last day of school. And I did need a sub once on the first day of school.

@DWDavis Well, as it turned out I got a call to sub at 12:10! I wondered why they thought it was worth calling me since it was a 40 minute drive and I had to get ready. But off I went on the first day after the 2 week break.

Some of the counties around here are closed tomorrow, not sure why except for the hills I guess.

We have a lot of rural roads in the county and many of them are in areas that don't get much sun. If it is not safe for the buses to make their routes, they won't open the schools.

@DWDavis I understand that..but they are closing city schools....maybe teachers live in the hills!s.

@DWDavis Here, the schools are always open, the buses that can run do, and a few don't.

A Master Class with Patterson sounds interesting. Will you fill us in after it happens?

The class lasts for 22 lessons. I've finished the first 7 so far. I've gotten a lot out of the lessons to this point.

Enjoy your snow day. We'd need a lot more snow than that to have school cancelled.

Our buses aren't properly equipped, nor our drivers properly trained, for snowy and icy weather. Because of this, it doesn't take much to close schools.

All that work for nothing. Your writing class sounds really interesting.

So far the first two lessons have been interesting.

There is always a productive option. We did not get enough snow or ice to cause any local closings. That is okay, we really need to get back into the swing of things.

In truth, another weather day is the last thing we needed after missing 8 days in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

Yes. And he's excited about having THE DW Davis in his class. It is an online class.
