Winter Driving

Every year after the first snowfall the police come out with the same warning–slow down, slow down, slow down. But there is always some dimwit who thinks he of she has better control over the vehicles on icy, snowy roads than everyone else.
Many of these ding-a-lings are driving four-wheel-drives and think since they have better traction they can go faster. The truth is, a four-wheel-drive vehicle isn’t going to stop any faster than any other vehicle on the road.
Also in the winter people need to keep their distance behind other vehicles. Driving too close is another accident waiting to happen. Vehicles are not easy to control on icy, snowy roads, especially if they go into a slide.
Here’s an example of winter driving for those who have never experience winter driving.

Yes, rain can make road slick especially if it the first rain after a dry spell. The water and oils on the road don't mix.

Their will always be idiots out there behind the wheel. They cause so many accidents by not adjusting their driving to the weather conditions.

Yeah, they are SO important and going to such important places!
About the only advantage of living here in Arizona is the dry roads. But watch out when it rains! A couple of drops and every car on the freeway slams on the brakes, causing a few collisions. And if it continues to rain? OMG, you'd think it was a flood the way people act. Every day without sun (very few of them) is viewed as BAD weather and you can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth clear across the country!

Yes, so think they are very important and have very important places to be.
That's funny about the rain.

It can be that way with rainy day drivers out here too
. It's bad enough there are bad drivers in good weather . . . these bozos drive the way they do as if weather doesn't matter. Rain isn't as bad as icy, snowy conditions, but still people need to drive cautiously (I've hydroplaned a couple times . . . luckily I wasn't even going fast and no one was around!).1 person likes this

Oh man you were both lucky the outcome was ok . . . did you see your life flash in front of you? It's crazy that some people need an experience like that to drive cautiously - when they should have been driving more carefully in the first place.

Wow, that sounded scary . . . did you get injured at all? You've gone through some hairy car experiences . . . perhaps you should have been a stunt driver

Yes, if we have several hot summer days here and then it rains we have the same problem–not as bad as icy roads but still slick.
Years ago I was riding with a bozo when we hit a heavy rainstorm. The rain dumped out of the sky making visibility extremely hard. Cars pulled off to the side of the road to wait it out. What does this bozo do? He came up on a car going too slow for his demented mind. So this bozo decides he is going to pass the car. Just as he gets into the oncoming lane we see a car appear from out of the rain. Bozo dynamites the brakes. We spin like an uncontrollable top. Luckily we ended up back in our lane going the direction we were before the spinout. The oncoming car had stopped and the cars behind us had stopped so we missed hitting any cars. At least after that bozo slowed down.

I'm late but I'm here to say that photo is freaky. Yesterday roommate drove slow due to conditions. Of course several people had to barrel around her in their smart vehicles- driving into more packed snow and ice sitting in the middle of the road. I closed my eyes and hung on.

Yes, and people just don't think. 4WD and they think they can go as fast as they want and go anywhere.

@RichardMeister We've just bought a second-hand 4WD which has very 'fat' tyres and it actually aquaplanes on wet roads much worse than the standard sedan we had.

It is so horrible what happens to some who are out in the snow and ice. We have the option of listening to the warnings and avoiding all of that.
