Lazy or excusible ?

Lazy cooks and food borne illnesses I had a little panic session awhile back when there was a story on the news about a certain kind of chicken cutlet that I like making people sick.  It's the pre-packaged breaded chicken entrees that are like chicken Kiev style (breaded chicken cutlet with herbed butter inside) or chicken cordon bleu style (breaded chicken with Swiss cheese and ham inside).  I panicked, I like these and I tend to eat them often.  I kept watching. Apparently what was happening was that people were popping them in the microwave for a few minutes, entirely ignoring the package's directions - and trying to eat them.  Maybe these people were getting these product confused with something more like chicken nuggets or popcorn chicken that are sold pre-cooked.  These entrees are raw and cannot be microwaved.  They must be baked for 30 minutes.  It's printed clearly on the back of the package.  So as it turned out it wasn't to product making people sick, it was people's lack of reading the instructions.  What do you think?  Are we getting lazier as a society?  Or is this a justifiable oversight?  Photo: Mine

We are getting lazier. So much is being taken care of for us that many have become complacent. Some have little idea about anything let alone food preparation. So no, it's not a justifiable oversight.

@JudyEv You have to be really good friends to share a shower or bath. Or maybe not!

@FayeHazel I was wondering about the no shower/bathtub sharing.

Good point! I was going to move in with a friend, until she mentioned that she didn't want me using the shower or bathtub, or kitchen. When I cornered her on it she just said that she thought I could get by with a microwave. Ha ha.... uhm... nope, not me. (Never did have a good excuse for not wanting me to bathe)

That is awesome that it was proved to be consumers faults by not following direction instead of it being the product itself making people ill. That is a huge relief!

I think laziness has a lot to do with it. People want their food right now. They don't want to wait for it. I'm the same way. Though I do read the package to find out if I can microwave it or it needs to go in the oven to bake.

@FayeHazel I learned to cook from scratch and actually prefer it. I will make a scratch meal to a microwave one in a heartbeat. But if I'm super hungry, it's the microwave as it still takes a long time for scratch.

It does kind of scare me at times - not many people can any more, or prepare meals from scratch, now we are getting too lazy to do even pre-fab meals if they require baking? Eeeek

I use the microwave for very few things. It's great for quickness but you can't beat slow cooking in an oven to ensure the food is hot enough right through and safe to eat. However, you still have to follow instructions.
